Default O.S. 95AX Questions?

What size fuel tank and what size props are recommended on the new O.S. 95AX? Will a 14oz. tank be ok? Also, is a 14x8 or 15x8 a good prop size or are they too small?

Thanks,
Tony

A 14-ounce tank is OK, you can also use a 16-ounce tank if it's not too far from the engine.

A 14 x 8 prop is OK, but the 15 x 8 is much too large. You can go as small as 12 x 8, but you'll have a lot of noise. Target 12,000 RPM when you're running on the ground and leaned to rich of peak RPM. Then fly the plane. Any prop that will give you 11,000-12,000 RPM on the ground and will fly your plane as desired is the "correct" prop.

O.S. suggests larger props and RPM as low as 9,500 for much quieter operation. However, you'll lose power that way. The engine will run and handle nicely when propped for 11,000-12,000 RPM.

Thank you!! I don't have room in the plane for a 16oz tank so I will stick with a 14oz. Any idea what kind of run times I will get with a 14oz. tank? What is the correct prop range for this engine to run properly? I plan on using this engine on a 10ish pound Top Flite P-51 Mustang kit.

Thanks again,
Tony

Default RE: O.S. 95AX Questions?

I have a 95AX just broken in with 12 flights on a Twist 60. The hi speed is set for
3 clicks rich from maximum rpm and the low end is set for a quick no stumble
transition from idle to full rpm. The problem is that it four strokes from idle to 1/2
throttle. Kind of boinky sounding with the stock muffler. The four stroking near
idle makes landing a little more difficult due to the uneven power and speed.
Would changing the glo plug help this problem and if so which plug should I try?
The propellers so far were a 15x6 MAS K and a 14X8 MAS wood scimitar. both
propellers 4 stroked about the same. I am running 15% nitro with 18% oil which
has some castor in it. The plug was whatever it was shipped with; probably OS#8.
We fly at 3000 ft in Tucson.

"Four-stroking" at medium to low throttle settings is normal. You can try leaning the idle mixture a bit, but fuel flow becomes lower at low throttle settings because fuel draw is diminished. The engine should be steady, but on the rich side.
