OS 46AX Shaft Play
 

I recently ordered an OS 46AX engine and received it via UPS last night. There is a significant amount of end play (in and out) of the prop shaft.
When putting a little pressue on the shaft I can hear it rubbing on the back plate. I have two other OS 46AX engines and they don't have this issue.
This doesn't sound normal - not sure if it's the bearing or something else. In the meantime I will be returning this item.

Put a propeller on it. When there's no propeller, the crankshaft can move fore and aft in the bearings. When you install a propeller, it will pull everything tight, and you'll only have .001"-.002" of movement when everything's new. The crank should not touch the rear cover when a propeller's installed.

Thanks, that did the trick. I was a little nervous - there should probably be something in the instruction manual.
