FT-240 / FT-300 Connecting Rod

I've heard the bronze connecting rods supplied with early OS FT-240 engines have been known to seize on the crankshaft and basically destroy the engine. This happened to a person who also said there was a steel connecting rod available for the FT-240/300, with bronze bushed ends. When I search for such a part (#46205000), though, the photo is of a solid bronze connecting rod.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Can anyone provide a bit more background? Is this something to be concerned about?

Thanks,
RB8

RE: FT-240 / FT-300 Connecting Rod

If you use a fuel with proper lubrication, don't try to overload the engine, and keep it properly-cooled, you won't have a problem. To our knowledge there never were any steel connecting rods used. There may have been after-market parts, but we haven't heard of any.

Thanks, Bax, appreciate the reply. Must have been a one-off problem.
