What cars have you owned?
Belive it or not, im only 20 and i have already had my fair share of cars, i simply just find something better, and usually even more odd, unconventional and non-practical.
the first was My black 1996 Dodge Dakota SLT. it was only $1300 when i got it, and i paid $800 from lawn mowing and birthday money. it had a little dodge rust, but it was pretty solid. with the 5.2L V-8 it made it a torquey, quick little truck. the thing i remember most is not having a gas guage, which caused me to run out of gas 4 times in a year, and the starter that had to be convinced to turn, turning the key untill it finally caught, i eventually put a new starter on it and had to do it twice due to a reman starter that never stopped.
but as a guy that likes taking corners hard, i sold it with a broken blower motor for $2600 with 145K
the second car was a black 1995 Volvo 850Turbo. i loved that car and held on to it for almost two years. it needed work but since i was now going to auto school, i was able to make all those repairs myself. the 2.3L turbo 5cyl made this car damn fast for a sedan, it also handled well with the passive rear steering. after tires, vented rotors, tune up, controll arms, there was nothing wrong with it but i stupidly sold it because i wanted a two seater. i sold it for $2600 with over 225K (odometer broke at 223k)
the third car was a 1986 Fiero GT. it was in great shape inside out, with no mechanical issues. i was living it up driving around a mid engine super car look alike. the 2.8L sfi V-6 had a husky growl right behind your head and had enough to make it sporty. with plans to make a 3800SC swap, i found out some of the frame work (which i was told was PERFECT) was rotten, so broken harted, i sold it and took a hit on the price. she only had 63k on it
I then jumped on the fouth car, a white (with racing stripes) 1993 Mazda Miata. that little thing was fun to scoot around with, handled like it was on rails, and shifted like a true sports car, it was always reliable, always getting 30mpg i was happy with the car, especially for the price, but the faded paint and its small interior (6'2 223lbs me is too big) finally made me want a 4door again.
well that never happend my fifth and current car is a black 1978 Corvette. i picked it up from a kid in the middle of nowhere, who bought it just a few miles from my house from a guy that stored it (shamefully under a tarp outside) for 10years. the kid i bought it from never drove it and needed money for rent, he was going to restore it, but i have been passed the torch.
in short the car is a project, it runs and drives GREAT, but its needed a brake line, power steering hoses, radiator and radiator hoses, tune up, carpet, fixing leaks, fixing pop up headlights ect. and she still needs paint, exhaust and a little more work along with the head swap im doing this winter. but for now my little shark is great for going back and forth to college and work and hauls ass when i need it. she only has 53k on the clock
aside from that i also own a 1994 caddy deville i picked up for $1300 that im using for a winter car, its in decent shape and only needed the evil water pump done, which i did a little while ago.
and i also had a 1977 chevelle malibu, i picked up for $250 never drove and sold for $700
you can see the vette and fiero on my profile, but i have to find the other photos.
ok, im not the only one here that goes through cars like water am i? what have you guys owned?

RE: What cars have you owned?
Never owned a car. Owned 9 trucks 2 fords (what a mistake! Glad I made it early) and 7 chevy's which I wore right out. Just gave my last one away to a pal for a project truck.....250,000 original miles. Never a glitch in the drivetrain.

RE: What cars have you owned?
Shark you sound like my brother :P
He blew all their transmissions though, and would get his one buddy to patch em up and sell em.
Personally I've owned 3
1992 Plymouth Acclaim
My 1st car paid $650 for it.
Truthfully the car went through hell physically. I bent the frame once, and another time I learned the hard way drifting in a FWD car is not a good idea on it (while blowing quarter sized holes through both front tires)
Ran pretty good tranny failed after a year got it repaired drove it close to another 2 years till I took it in for the emissions test.
The day I took it was like 100 degrees out, and the tester did NOT put a damn fan in front of it. They ran it for over 10 minutes till finally a piston siezed in it and broke its con-rod...
My parents took it and replaced the engine, car was in good shape (was like $900), and let my sister drive it till she completely seized that engine (she put a hole through the oil pan the size of a super big gulp), and drove it with no oil.
2nd car
1988 Delta 88 Royal
Great car. Roomy I miss it. Paid $600 cash for it.
Was a steal for the price, it only needed tires (which I got alum rims off a totaled park avenue for $90 for a full set with BRAND new tires at a junk yard ) And had to have all the brake lines replaced right away(they all split [:@]). But the car was sitting for around a year when I bought it. Other than that I don't think I had to repair a damn thing in the 2 or so years I owned it.
Only reason I got rid of it was some idiots tried to steal it and completely screwed up the steering column. The place I had it "repaired" by decided to give it a good check, and it never worked right after that. I had the car by another mechanic a month before and it was in perfect running condition... The place who "fixed" its column besides reaming me on the price, claimed a pile of parts were bad or needed replacing. Guy I sold it to that I know took it to another mechanic told him it wasn't put together right when it was repaired and that was the issue of the problems.
3rd car
1998 Monte Carlo
Paid $800 for it, person I know wanted to dump it fast cause they bought another car and its plates were due. Plus seeing my issues with the delta 88 I bought it
I can say I HATE this car. Seriously HATE it. Turns out the 1st owner must have been in a decent fender bender seeing the trunk doesn't line up right (plus its rusting bad where I always suspected it of being worked on). I know the 2nd owner didn't get into an accident with it seeing I saw the car pretty much at least once a week since they owned it.
Main reason I hate the car is that due to my height I have issues seeing stop lights if I'm the 1st car at the line due to how the windshield slopes. I have to bend over and put my head near the steering wheel, open the sun roof, or wait til the guy behind me honks . I've driven a 85 camero, 92 mustang, 98 mustang, 93 camery, 98 Cadillac STS, 95 civic, 78 delta 88, and 4 other cars(forgot their models) and not had this issue. Looked it up a few years back seems I'm not the only person that has this issue with it.
Next car I want a 85 firebird or trans-am(I love how they look), another older GM car, or maybe a chevy volt (to save on gas) after they fix all the glitches (or if I find a totaled one so I can slap its parts in a different chassis )

RE: What cars have you owned?
1998 Chevy Lumina Sedan "Tinky Winky"
Bought it in high school. The deal was my parents would pay insurance if they could pick out the car (which I payed for). Baby blue with the infamous 3.1 liter. We nicknamed her Tinky Winky the Teletubby because of my CB antenna mounted on the center of the roof. I rolled the car right after I finished high school on a country road with too much snow. I decided to run her until she died and she just wont die. Its sitting outside right now ready to be taken to the scrappers. Still runs good but it leaks coolant into the oil, needs brakes, shocks, and an exhaust. I cant sell it because it would need an out of province inspection to be re-registered and no-one is that stupid.
199X Chevy Lumina Van
Saw it with 4 brand new winter tires and a $200 for sale sign on it. Van was junk. Got $200 at the scrappers and the wheels ended up not fitting my car so I sold them in the classifieds.
2003 Jeep Wrangler "Sally"
Decided the Lumina will never die and I need something respectable, preferably a stick so I pay attention to the road and dont mash the skinny pedal all the time. Hard top, bikini top, little bit bigger tires and some extra lights. Her name is Sally.
2003 Honda XR400r "Dirty Ginger"
My first big dirtbike and street legal bike. A street titled XR400r is pretty rare for Ontario. Kickstart, no key, no light controls (always on when running), and a purple plastic Wal-Mart bicycle trumpet horn. Starting it requires love, the kind of love only an owner knows. Her name is Dirty Ginger.

RE: What cars have you owned?
thats cool that you name your cars hands without shadows
i named my malibu fred, cause it looked like a fred, and my ma named her 1980 cutlass "teddy" because it was brown.
i really dont name cars but they do have male/female charictaristics, the vette is a male, the miata was a female ,whenever i thought about selling it, the lifters would make noise at startup and when i was selling it, the battery flatlned and wouldnt take a charge, so i had to throw in a $100 batt
but its still habit for me to call any car "she"

Place I take it to to get repaired they keep saying lumina, and then are like OHH DAMN THATS RIGHT I MEAN MONTE CARLO
Worst part I think on it are the fuel injectors they used those suckers fail at random, and are costly to replace.
Unlike most shops I been to the place I go now leaves all the parts they replace sitting on the side till you pick up the car and will show you book for the place they order the parts from if you ask.
Unfortunately its the 3.1 liter engine in the sucker

Hmm, 1996 Honda Civic which was originally my parents but I learnt to drive in it and then got it as a present. Some lady high on cocaine drove into it when it was parked at night thus writing it off.

RE: What cars have you owned?
lol i didnt hurt myself killing it, i was mainly making a road from the street to a place in the wood where we use to meet to drink/party/make a fire.
it was a 15 mins walk and i decided to open a road for some people that had nice 4x4s with big sound systems so they could enter the wood and get to the spot
i was laying down trees between 2-3inches up to 4-5inches in diameter in foward AND reverse !. that truck actually never died, i had 2 little accident before so the body was pretty messed up and decided to finish it. only real mechanical damage was the rad support pushed the rad into the fan and engine overheated
ill remember that truck all my life!

I bought 2 Japanese made cars that the wife wanted. I will never buy another one.
There may be a few that I have forgotten.
I guess I should include my 1958 Harley.
Speaking of junk, and I was, I owned the 1976 Nova and !977 Celica at the same time. I bought new B.F. Goodrich tires for both of them within a few days of each other. Both of them developed a bad shimmy early on. I returned to the tire dealer many times and each time was told that they were out of balance. Actually, the belts were bad in all 8 tires yet no dealer that I went to would allow and exchange. I called the customer support hotline and even wrote letters and got no results. I will never again buy Goodrich tires.

RE: What cars have you owned?
So far, I have owned 34(Cars I actually drove) And, uncounted parts or Field cars(Smashed to death in a failed subdivision on the dirt roads). Lets see.. I have actually kept up with these cars, and have even have detailed info on how much was spent for on each car plus what I got back out of it. Anal huh? LOL All these in a time frame starting in around the summer of 1995- present. Started with...
1982 Mercury Capri RS/Flared fender Mustang: My brother bought a new Prelude and, gave me the keys to it and, that was my first car. Unfortunately I drove my Bro to an all night party so he could drink, and not worry about driving. Almost wonder if we would have been better off letting him do so?.. Anyway it was almost dawn as we left. I hadn't had my license long, and had been burning the midnight oil for a couple of days straight. I fell asleep, and centered a concrete guardrail. Dang near split it in half. My bro. came out fine. I had a badly broken shoulder, and a messed up knee....
1986 Honda Civic DX: Mom gave it to me after I recovered. She had bought another car because the head was cracked on it. I fixed it, and drove it a while.
1983 Buick SkyHawk 2dr: I traded the Civic for it, and boot after the clutch failed in it.
1988 Buick Regal
2 1983 Renault Fuego's 1 Turbo one Na car. FREE. Weird cars to say the least.
1984 Ford EXP
1979 Buick Lesabre: 55,000 original 1 owner miles. I owned the Regal, Fuego's, EXP, and this car all at once. Im working a good job now. My friend bought a Porsche 944/951 Turbo I drove it, and had to have one....
1986 Porsche 944S/951 Turbo: I sold all the other cars but, the Regal had to drive to work. And, bought this jewel with a few borrowed bucks of course. It had a fuel rail fire, and had minor damage. Fixed everything, and painted it. Man what a fun car...
1981 Porsche 911SC: Traded the 944 even, however it did need some work. after being restored got in trouble in it, and nearly lost my license due to speeding tickets.
1992 Chevy Beretta GTZ: Yep had to down size to a 4 banger to keep out of trouble. Atleast I made boot money.... Got T boned in it
1990 Mustang GT: Nope, I stayed out of trouble this time... I wound up losing my job and, had to sale I Still made money on that sale but, not much.
1984 S-10 really decked out for it's time. But, still out dated had that 80's theme going LOL. It got rear ended.
1988 Low mile 62,000 Formula Firebird in 98 still only 69,000 at time of sale.
1991 Geo Storm: to keep miles off the bird, and save gas driving to my new job. Wound up working at a New Pontiac, GMC, Olds, and Toyota dealership. Where a large number of the next cars will come from buying the trade ins at a good deal. LOL
1980 Trans AM with a 383 SB: No trouble in it, it was at the strip that I stretched it legs.
1994 Plymouth Duster: traded the tired Storm in for it.
1990 Plymouth Laser/Eclipse
By now I had sold the Pontiacs the Formula, and TA to the same guy. All I had was the duster at this point.
1986 Pontiac Fiero GT. In 99 had 85,000 on it. I STILL have this car to this day. With a swapped engine. It has a 3.4 Firebird engine in it now.
1998 Ford ZX2: Demo basically New. Traded the beaten Duster in for it.
1994 Camaro Z28 Convertible 6spd: I REALLY miss this one..... By the time I had this car 3 years. The events of 9/11 caused a rift that left me jobless, and well, It had to be sold.
1988 S-10: Was a nice truck just, not my vert.
1992 Dodge Shadow: Meh...
1994 Chrystler LHS 3.5: Good car but, to big for me.
1988 Honda Accord 3dr: Not bad atleast it was manual trans.
Now the fun starts to pick back up got a call back to work after a hiatus of nearly 2 years jobless....
1988 Fiero Formula 5spd: Was a fun ride.
2000 Merc Cougar MTX:
2002 Mustang GT:
2007 Monte Carlo SS 5.3 V8: New 52 miles at purchase. It was great while I was working close to home. But, I changed jobs, and found out that it wasn't that great on gas driving in the stop, and go traffic.
1986 S-10: Bought to tow my SeaDoo. Wasn't long till they were both sold in one deal.
1985 Fiero GT: I traded this one only recently for a Mustang vert.
2009.5 Pontiac G6: Had 2.3 miles at the time of the test drive. Bought it Aug 18, 09. This car has however met a sad end. Sep. 2, 2010 it burned and, I had to watch unable to stop it... I was at a place me, and friends go to run RC's. I was running my MGT, and getting ready to fly my Blade CP. Luckily you can walk away, and not worry about things going missing. The Heli was outside on the ground. The chargers I use clip onto the battery so, no contest there. But, I did have my cellphone charging and, it started in the interior cabin. So, I can't speculate on what happened. I happened to crash my MGT, while turning it over I saw smoke coming from where it was parked. By the time a ran to the nearest house for help. It was trashed. Had 4,023 on the odo as OnStar sent the monthly diagnostic report that morning. The cellphone was an older model Razor V3i. Never cared for these newer phones..... Still don't. Anyway
1986 Mustang convertible LX 5.0: I got this one before the unpleasantness of the G6 loss. Fun car though.
1995 Thunder bird LX 4.6: While I still have the Fiero GT, and Mustang. The Mustang's top is shot at this moment. New one on order. the Fiero has had a hydraulic clutch issue, and only just now found the culprit. So, the T-bird will pick up the slack for now.
I am now on the hunt for a slick WS6 TA 6spd...
Wow, this really wound up being long winded.

RE: What cars have you owned?
I was 14, and bought a 1968 VW Karamnn Ghia for 2k, Rebiult the carb and sold it for 3k, then bought a Suzuki X90 for 2500, ripped out the lame seat covers, tinted the t-tops, and sold it for 3k also, Then bought a 1971 VW squareback, for 700, cleaned it up, lowered it, painted it, rebuilt the enging and sold it for 1k. Then got a 1994 chevy half ton pickup from my dad that is my graduation present that i still drive now, (i'm 17) and i just sold a 1969 baja bug project for 450 that i had 200 in. Whats next? I'm thinking a studebaker pickup from the late 40's

RE: What cars have you owned?
foreign cars = way better than domestic cars. This is not true for all makes and all models but it is for most of them. The cars just handle and drive way better overall.

just remember ALL CARS ARE JUNK, it "they" wanted to, cars would last 300K+ miles without any problems, but who would buy a new car and where is the money gained from parts?

it really all just comes down to luck and maintenance.

We had an ancient Zenith TV one of the 1st color models I was told, that was bought way before I was born. It still was in perfect working order in 1995 or so when we finally threw it out(it was downgraded to a basement TV long before). We went trough 5-6 other TV's that died in various ways (pictures shrinking, shorting out, etc) but that zenith was still good. Probably one of the reasons they went under no one needed to buy replacements My grandmas fridge lasted 35 years our last one was like 9 years when it croaked.
IMO it seems the older cars needed less work seeing there was less to break in them, and they weren't as highly tuned as current
My grams old 78 oldsmobile still runs fine, its just that the body, and frame around it rotted away due to the climate or it would still be drivable(seriously if it hit a pothole it would probably lose a chunk of the car). Compared to my 98 monte crapper I think my 98's had way more work engine, and electronic repairs done on it in the 4 years I've owned it than hers did in 25 years.
