Default Quick PS3 help.

Alright, Well time has come to format the PS3, ( fat 80gig for reference ), Bro used to own it and He has a ton of junk on it that I really have no need for and any saved game data I could care less about.. Basically all "greatest hits" games anyways.. So I want to start out fresh and clean! Questions are, I notice a couple different formatting options i.e, System restore or System format.. Which one should I do? And when done formatting I take it I will have to re-download the updates?

Wow, Good help is hard to find these days, I HAVE googled it but got really scattered information, So I thought I would come ask the bright and intelligent folks of RCU for a hand... But nah eh?

Instead of typing out a lame attempt to try to insult me while simultaneously showing the world your lack of ability to do anything for yourself, you could have spent less time signing up for a PS3 board (like this one but Play Station 3 - not Remote Controlled Vehicles) and received an answer faster

Now before you hit the reply button after reading this post, [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMbUDO-Otvg]count to 10[/link], use my previous link and then find yourself a play station 3 related message board.

This thread is retarded. OP, you'll want system format, system restore does exactly what it sounds like it does.

Awesome, Thanks for the uplifting replies, And making someone feel like a complete waste of time, But if that's what puts a smile on Your face today then congratz...As You can see is a "Off-Topic Forum" So anything can be asked out of the RC world.. And I'm pretty sure there is a lot more "retarded" threads on RCU then this one.. But hey.. What do I know

Since I'm tarded, I'll ask another PS3 related Q.

I have a PS3 and it plays CD's fine, but will not play games.
(Got in trade used, worked for 2 weeks and has been sitting since, don't know what size HD. The PS3 is the fat old one)
Googling has told me that the Blu-Ray drive is toast and they can be had on ebay for $50.
Does this sound right?

Not you, buggyboy. Just all the idiotic replies wasting time instead of giving you a straight answer that could've ended this thread about 7 replies ago.

No prob, Yea, the 40gigs are some of the first gen PS3's, The problem was that they would get so congested with dust ( mostly operator error, Not cleaning them properly and frequently enough ) That they would over heat, And the solder that was used on the board to hold certain components in place would basically melt away causing the well known YLOD ( Yellow light of death ) Your screen on Your TV would go bright yellow and then You would be looking for a new PS3, ( almsot like Xbox's Red ring of death ) Repairs would cost 150$ so it was just better to buy a new one.. Sony has now fixed the problem with all the second gen' PS3 fat systems like My 80gig and so on, So the new PS3 slim is "melt proof", But regular cleaning is recommended

Hmm, I get no yellow screen, it just stops loading at the black screen, or locks up.
I'm pretty handy with a solder iron, maybe I could dod some board tests and fix the gaps?

I think it's an internal fault with the drive. If it weren't then I doubt CDs would work and not the BluRay discs.

Yea, blu-rays (games) don't work, or work for only a few minutes...
I can play an entire CD with no issues tho.
Would be alot cheaper to solder a few melted joints tho!
I have a solder sucker and all that.[8D]

Yup, Sorry I got You thinking it was YLOD Slayer..lol. I ramble on sometimes.. But HJ is right, I've had the same promblem with DVD-Rom drives in a computer, they would play regular CD's but not any DVD's, But yea You can get a new blueray drive to, Not sure on prices though
