Haha yeah... cowboy loads are so gay. I accidentally picked some up one time, it was like shooting a .22, with a ton of smoke and noise. I have a rem. 870 in 410, it slaughters clays, the spread is not all that much, and it isn't choked, but can still compete with my over-under 12's.

yeah, i got some winchester super X which is a 875FPS 255Gr round, which is pretty stout for a LC round but thats all i could get ahold of, but i have seen cowboy loads at like 600fps and 200gr. supposivly these guns can handle some 1000FPS 300gr. rounds without issue, but there is really no need to do that, it would kick like hell.

the .410 shells are made for THIS gun, and shoot pretty heavy loads at 1200FPS, these are made for personal defense.

no chance yet to shoot, i know a guy on a farm, but he's a nervous nelly.

ask around at the gun shop about local state land. no need to have permission to shoot what ever you have there!

I have a question which I wonder if anyone knows the answer to. I've been buying these paper targes for air rifles for 10 years now. On them it says 'In practice you cannot beat Bisley pellets.'

Is that a joke/pun/riddle? I just don't get it and it's getting on my nerves after 10 years [&:]

after a google search- they are a brand that make some pretty expensive pellets. here in the US, they are labeled as beeman and h&n. they actually make some pellets so precise (and expensive) that i would imagine are used primarily by the Olympic shooters.

WHOOO! i did it! i went to the range and fed the gun 70 rounds! i started with 50 250Gr 750fps cowboy loads and then 20 870fps 255gr loads.

i was scared as all hell at first, but as soon as a pulled that trigger it all went away, i started at 20 then 30 then 35 and on the 20ft (first few rounds) i put more than half dead center in the target (10 inch target with 2inch bull's eye) i didnt do too well at 30 with cowboy loads, but 90% where on target, at 35 i switched to the super X loads which had a much stronger kick, and almost all where in the target.

people stopped shooting for a couple seconds to watch me after i put almost all my rounds on target with a LOUD snubnose, i had the loudest gun on range, it was THUMP instead of CRACK.

i will post pictures of the targets soon.

That makes sense. Cheers. I wonder how precise their bullets are. I've been shooting into a half foot thick log for a month now and I've now made a clean hole right through it which is about an inch wide. Must have shot a few thousand rounds into it

I'm embarrassed to tell you that I don't know what it's called. I think it's considered "high end" since it cost over £300. I've also got a CO2 pistol one which again I have no idea what it's called but I will tell you once I return from London and get a chance to look at them.

yeah, 300 pounds is about $475 so i would say thats at least mid level. i find it funny that i could fully justify spending $600+ on an air gun but have trouble justifing $300 on a 17hmr (i make fake shopping carts on websites to pass the time...)[&:]. i guess it has a lot to do with the propulsion of a bullet being in the casing which is removed and replaced after each shot and the propulsion of a pellet actually being in the gun (more R&D for the money).

The HMR is so worth the money. Its my new love to shoot and has been for 3 years now. 50 to 100 yards is the same no change just a flat shooter. Some peple are hitting 150 yards and taking out the target. cheap to shoot but not .22 cheap but 1000 times better then a 22. I get better groups with my .17 hmr then guys at the range shooting 22mag.

I practise shooting in my garden from 25 metres. However once I saw a wood pigeon sitting in a tree at about 200 yards away. It was my first air rifle so I wanted to see how far it went and didn't want to actually kill the pigeon, anyway I still aimed at it since the scope wasn't set up properly. Nice shot, the beautiful smell of burning oil coming from the barrel, I hear the bullet going through the leaves of the tree, pigeon falls dead. Crap. [&o]

Hand up regarding the bird story....[&o]

My first bb gun was a Daisy 880.

Used to shoot it in the back yard. Aiming at a knot in a peach tree. I watched that bb go down range, hit the knot, and come straight back at me. Hit me dead center in the left lense of my glasses....[:-]

Never did tell my parents...but sure as hell learned one serious lesson that day.

nothing compaired to a .45LC round, $.70 to $1.10 a pop, it makes me re-think what caliber to have, but god is that a fun round.

Remember the discussion about 357's? And how affordable the ammo is?

well you would love my marlin 1895 cowboy 45-70. I don't recomend for a first time rifle but it is a lot of fun. I don't have a scope on it and it does not need one its good for a 100 yards open sights and so is my AR-15. If you do go for a rifle the 30-06 is just great all around, not as flat as I would like but after some shooting you learn how to adjust to the arc. 308 is also at the tops as the 270. I was at the range and this dude had a very nice 25-06 I was just shooting the crap with him and he was telling me 500, 600, yards no problem with his ammo. He loads his own and loads them a tad hot. 243 also good rifle round. once you get the gun bug you never recover my brother, its a very bad sickness...lol

glad your happy with the gun.

i traded in the judge for a polished SS Rugar new Vaquero single action with a 7.5 barrel. got it for a good deal

i took a hit on the judge, i wanted a colt clone in the first place, and hated the bobbed hammer on the judge.

i cant wait to get it and try it out

There ya go! Those are damn fine guns, I actually just sold one a few months ago. The Vaquero is also one of the beefiest revolvers you can find.

i just picked it up, its a bute! the range was full so no opprotunity to shoot it yet. the tooling is top of the line, CNC work is PERFECT. first thing i did was take some mother's metal polish and got a mirror finish out of it.

staring down the barrel (unloaded of course) the cyilinder AND barrel are POLISHED.

my judge had rust in there, somewhat shotty tooling of the spur? and mill grit.

im also starting reloading, so i got a box of 500 bullets, 1000primers, 120 used cases and a lee kit on the way, it is however, the old "hammer system" so im going to be a little timid at first.

i dont think im going to get any other gun than rugar now, for the price it is top notch. pics soon.

i guess you did get a cannon

now time to pick up a rimfire! you will have loads of fun for pennies a shot. then a legit shot gun. then a 30.06. then a break action. then a lever action. then a semi-auto pistol for plinking. then you realize you need a German airgun. then you'll want some target guns to compete at the gun club. oh yeah, you will want to join a gun club and the NRA. after all of that, you will realize you might have an addiction
