I have not created a GMail account and so I can not log in.....no doubt I will give in eventually.....but for now, I have got the hump with it.

You need a "Google account", but you don't need another email address. I have a Google account using my single Yahoo email address. Mine was already setup so that I could use Google Maps, Google Calendar, etc... All I had to do now was link my YouTube account to it. It's actually kind of neat the way they have it setup.
Google bought YouTube in 2006. Users with accounts after 2009 had to have a Google account. Now they are making it a requirment for older accounts.
YouTube explains all of this. Security and organization were the main reasons for the change.

Or so they want us to believe.
It's just another step taken by Google to monitor every single keystroke all over the world so they can save all that information in their vast database for "research"
Just like they want us to store all our files and documents in that "cloud" or whatever it's called.
Google are in it for one thing and one thing only - to make money.
They do this by knowing what everyone does online so they can target us with advertising for products we are interested in.
