Default Naval STEM Program

Well, I recently learned that I was accepted into the Naval STEM Program. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) 375 students across the country are chosen based on academics, leadership, community service, etc. Its located in Annapolis, Maryland at the United States Naval Academy, and I will be there for one week. This is a great achievement for me.

Congratulations! I'm a big fan of those fields of academia. I don't know your age, is it for students?

I'm 16 and it is for students. I hope to attend the Air Force Academy, which is an engineering school.

congrats, you should be prepairing now if you really want to end up in Colorado Springs, besides getting the best grades possible it helps if you are athletic and play a sport, try to make team captain, they feel this gives you leadership abilities. If your a good student and a good athlete you get put into the "bluechip" program and go to the top of the pile of applications. I would also look into volunteer opportunities in your area, spend some time helping people, get letters of reference from them, send copies of these letters to your Senator explaining you want to go to the AFA and would like a reference letter from him/her. In this day and age it ain't hard for a young person to stand out, a little hard work goes along way when you are being compaired to most of the entitled little brats that are the "common" high school kids now.

A former Flight student of mine graduated from the Air force Academy as an astronautical engineer. She worked hard in high school and even harder at the academy and got a great position at Edwards Air force base. Good luck and make the most out of all the opportunities afforded you, because they quickly stop coming if you squander them.

Students must demonstrate superior academic performance to include GPA, class standing, and/or strong PSAT, SAT or ACT results. Selection is based in large part on ensuring geographic representation along with overall accomplishments in and out of the classroom.
