Nice! We had all the classics of course. Honey baked ham, sweet potato pie, potato casserole, rolls (yayyy pumpernickel!!!), etc. Kind of unimaginative but nonetheless expectedly good!!!

And gas cylinders? Weird thing to see, since ours comes right into the basement, into a meter and out to the rest of the house!

So my son tells me last night he needs an original sandwich recipe to enter into a competition at school.....

Spent a couple hours thinking about it and came up with this beauty.

Local King fish fillet cut into a square log, marinated in lemon juice, salt & pepper then patted with sesame seeds. Sauted in olive oil in pan until cooked medium rare and thrown into a hot oven for 5 minutes.

Sliced on the bias , and placed on a large burrito sized flour tortilla, topped with flash pickled courgette ribbons, sliced Hass avocado, sliced Alfonso mango and finely shredded spring onion. Roll it, halve it and serve. Done

They didn't last more than 10 minutes .

Having said that, I think it needs more color, so I'm thinking a couple of strategically placed raspberries...[&:]

Why yes....yes I have Shark.

Don't it just figure....a couple of weeks ago I was complaining about not being able to get a 'real' Rueben's Sandwich out here and what do I find today??? A Brooklyn Diner in Dubai.... Whish I could actually say it was as good as it looks, alas....no. The pastrami was dry as chalk and hard to eat. Other than that, real seeded rye bread was good and fresh, the dill pickle was great and crispy, the fries some of the best I've had here, the sauerkraut was perfect as well as everything else.

Shame really....for the equivalent of 22 bucks....very disappointing and quite expensive [&o].

WOOOHOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOHHOOOOO!!!

Look what I got a hold of!!!

It's not always available out here guys...and when it shows up....I'm a happy lad.

Going to have to do this some serious justice. I'm thinking pulled pork sammies and carnitas.

Any suggestions anyone??

I have a small stand up smoker, but not the time for it. Need to do this in the oven.

Suggestions welcomed.

One of my favorites is pork and kraut, just throw it in the crockpot with a bunch of sauerkraut and let it go until it is done. Very simple, but it works for me! I haven't been doing too much cooking, as you can tell by my FB, my focus is on about a 1/2 dozen other projects. Not to mention the BS I posted involving my room mate today.

+1000000000000 All i am waiting on now is for him to be released. Be the last time I ever extend a hand to a homeless friend, regardless. My own family couldn't get a spare bed at this point. Problem is now I have TWO empty bedrooms, need more stuff to fill em!!!

Think you should turn that spare room into a home brewed beer kitchen .

On a side note, I'm trying this recipe for the pork shoulder; http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/t...ipe/index.html

I rubbed it down last night, so by tonight it should have almost 24 hours marination on it, then the cooking time commences [&:].

Leftovers from last nights dinner. Penne with meat sauce topped with crushed red pepper and parmesian cheese, and a can of Pepsi. Spaghetti is always better the second day!

Ha! Ya Fahrt, see all those zip-loc bags in the back of the pic..... They're in the freezer now. I'll turn some of those portions into Carnitas [&:].

Tommy has disappeared with his busy home life and I just haven't had time to type up recipes and put here. Well, the Midnight Chef is back and I'm thinkin this thread has been dead way too long!

The time is 2:32 AM here, and here is the meal we just finished, a quick, cheap, simple dinner, but great nonetheless. Altogether about $6 for the two of us together.

Polish sausage
1 can beer
sauerkraut
butter (1/2 stick)
Large frying pan (I used 14-16")
Melt half stick of butter in frying pan on Med-Low heat, add sausage and about 2/3 can of beer, the kind of beer will also change the flavor, pick to taste.
Simmer uncovered until beer is completely cooked off (about 10-15 min)
Add Sauerkraut, cover, and continue simmering an additional 8 minutes.
Put on sausage on a bun, top with sauerkraut and mustard!
The fries are Rally's Famous Fries topped with Ragu cheese
