With all this talk about Sourdough bread, I was getting a bit homesick for one of my favorite deli's in San Diego.

It's called 'The Cheese Shop Deli'. Every payday when I worked downtown, me and a few of my colleagues would hit that place up for lunch.

Sourdough bread with smoked turkey, pepper jack cheese, avocado, sprouts, shredded lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo and dijon. My favorite nine times out of ten order. Would eat that with a small bag of fritos and a coke.

So in the end....I ended up making something close to it for dinner. Had to use some nice Portuguese rolls instead of the Sourdough though.

Roasted half a turkey breast with salt, pepper, white wine and sprinkled with a liberal amount of paprika. Thinly sliced that up after it cooled and topped it with shredded pepper jack, then stuck that under the broiler until nice and bubbly. Topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado and some mayo and dijon. Didn't have any sprouts.

It wasn't the same...but did the trick.

Sounds like the Rueben I had a few days ago...no corned beef in the 'fridge so I made it with ham...not bad, but not quite the ticket[&:]

Hahahaha....TBJ, I haven't been a nightclub dj in like 18 years and I haven't been to a nightclub in over 10 years....so I'm a bit out of the loop on that one bro.
Hmm. Perhaps it's time for something more Middle East appropriate.

Like...

Iran. Iran's so far away...
Pakistan
Is also far away...
So Iran
Is closer by a day...

If you don't get it, ThunderbirdJunkie will stop.

Nothing special to post today, just three delicious fried eggs and some sausage for breakfast.

That just sounds sick...but actually looks quite appealing.

Just leftovers here. Sunday is the night to clear everything out from the past week so we can start all over again afresh on Monday.

On Saturday I picked up some pig. I wanted shoulder, but they only had neck. I've never cooked neck before, so I treated it like I would have a shoulder to make Carnitas...for tacos!

It's been simmering in its own stock for the past 18 hours.

I will update you shortly with some pics.

Not at all Sheo. The only problem is that 'the other white meat' is much more expensive.

Shops that carry pork have to have a completely separate room for it and there's a sign over the entry that says something to the effect, "Pork Section - Muslims not allowed".

I'll try and grab a quick picture of it later today.

Restaurants who sell it must have a completely separate prep/cooking/staging/cleaning area as well....so that equals out to two separate kitchens. Adds to the cost...[&o][:@]

Speaking of pork, kind of a funny story.

A regular customer of ThunderbirdJunkie's (he had a Chrysler Sebring sedan, so he was in the shop often[&:]) took ThunderbirdJunkie to lunch.

We made an order and were discussing regional foods of The Americas.

"Man, you ever been to Memphis? Best barbecue ever."
"Yeah, I don't eat barbecue."
"OH MAN, even if you don't like barbecue you NEED to go to one of the dry-rub places in Memphis. It's the best food you'll ever eat"
"Yeah, still don't eat it"

The conversation went on and on like this for a few minutes.

"Jeff, why on EARTH are you so opposed to barbecue?"
"Eric, I don't eat pork."
"Why not?"
"I'm Jewish."
"So? Oh, wait..."

Mind you, ThunderbirdJunkie knows this guy pretty well, and knew damn well he was Jewish.

Maybe you had to be there[&:]

I guess Dubai is a bit more lenient toward the sale of pork as well due the multi-national nature of their economy and residency demographic.

Just one of the weekly staples here....Burgers on the barbi with a nice bowl of saute'd 'shrooms
