Thinking of getting my 1st peace maker.
So I have been looking at several guns and I'm really liking the Taurus 24/7 9mm. The features that I like are the 17 round clip, the size, and the additional safety trigger lock. Is this a good 1st time weapon, is it reliable? It's at a great price but I'm a firm believer in †you get what you pay forâ€. I would like to hear input from experienced gun owners and I am open to any other suggestions.

I would look at a Glock or M&P before a Taurus. QC just isn't there with Taurus. If you want metal look at a 92FS or a P226.

Taurus makes great firearms. I've always bought and used Taurus and my father has as well. Never had any issues with them. Good straight shootin pistols. My father has the Taurus .41mag. and it is a beat of a pistol.

The 24-7 is one of Taurus's better guns, the quality is there, especially for the price. I have never had a problem with one, they always shoot straight and reliably. I would steer clear of their other automatics though, their Beretta clone is junk, even though it looks nice, same with their slim 380.
If you are in the market for a polymer framed pistol, I would either consider Glock, or Springfield. I currently have an SA XDM-9, which is probably the best polymer automatic I have ever owned. I am not a fan of Glocks because of the crappy trigger, but they definitely are a durable and reliable gun. I have owned several, including a few G17 surplus guns. With Sig, you either love them, or hate them. I am not too fond of them, they just do not feel right. If you have a huge wad of cash to burn though, you might want to look into the HK USP.
As for a real Peacemaker, Uberti makes a great replica that can be had for around $600.

I guess peace maker was the wrong title lol. My budget is about 450.00 and I really can't go any higher. That's why I also like the price point of the Taurus 24\7 series. I don't want to buy used bcuz I just don't wasn't to take a chance. I have also been looking at the Walter PPK 380 but I've heard mixed reviews on that one also. More negative than positive.

Walter is really making some crappy guns now, I would not bother with ANY of their new stuff (proven or not) until they sort out the issues, especially with the P22.
Go for it, the 24/7 is a nice gun, and right in your price range.

In that price range I'd go for a Glock. Tons of parts support both factory and aftermarket. But one better is to go to a range and handle and maybe even shoot a Taurus 24/7 and a Glock/whatever else and choose what feels best.

i vote rugar, really good value for the money.
i had a taurus judge, not too good, mis-machined cylinders, crunchy action and just poor fit all over.

Same here.
Well, ex-European.
The huge hand cannon as featured in Dolan's Cadillac is one sexy piece of death.
Smith & Wesson 500 I think it was.
I wouldn't settle for anything smaller.

Get a nice 1911. I have shot a couple and they are very nice pistols. I'm turning 21 in a couple of months and I will be picking one up.

I have found that guns that size make it difficult to carry. They are large and uncomfortable and harder to easily conceal. My personal favorite carry gun is a Bersa Thunder 380. It is a PPK style gun that is relitively inexpensive, safe and a very reliable gun. I have many more expensive and larger guns but I dislike carrying them for several reasons. As I said above, comfort and concealability are more difficult with a larger gun and should the gun become lost or confiscated I am not out a lot of $$$.
As for Taurus, the only one I've ever owned, a PT940, 40cal, had to be returned to the factory for warranty repairs befor it even had 50 rounds through it.
I think that my favorite brand over all is Baretta. I've never held, shot or owned one I did not like.
My suggestion to you is to take the suggestions from this thread and go to a gun show. Look around, see what you like, hold them, work the actions, see how they would feel to carry, look at the options for carrying and concealing them. Then, once you have narrowed down the field, go to a range and rent the finalists and fire them. Guns, aside from the macho posturing like "bigger is better", etc, are a very subjective thing. What I like, or what others here may like is likely to be different than what you like.

RE: Thinking of getting my 1st peace maker.
i wouldnt own anything less than 45cal.
i want to get a 454casull that way i can still load and use my .45LC rounds and make some jaw dropping .45 magnum rounds for extra fun.
the .44mag is really like .43 and .42 once it leaves the barrel, an incredible round but not much more thumpy than a hotter round out of a .45LC.
big bores are mostly just for bragging for alot of people, but i like the ease of loading and the startiling recoil, fireballs and percussion makes it really fun to shoot
i dont like the desert eagle, its too fat and ive heard its unreliable, plus its nowhere near a 500magnum

Besides, why the hate for 9mm? It's an accurate, high velocity round.

Lol every one has made some good suggestions. I prefer a semi auto but will consider a revolver as well. One that I like slot is the model 442 Smith and Wesson 38 Special. Its just right at my price point. I also just looked at the Smith and Wesson model SW9VE Pistol. 10 round plus 1 in the chamber. I want a fun that will be good for home protection and the occasional concealed carry. I want to go to the shouting range best my home as well on the weekends. I have ben invited several times by my brother in law, but I always say no cuz I just done like borrowing stuff. Anyways I will be checking out some of the other brands mentioned a well. I will let you guys know what else I find. Thanks again for the great input.
