Default Family holiday in.....

BC and Alaska.

Planning on a 3 week trip to British Columbia and Alaska this summer.

Has anyone gone? Do you live there? Any suggestions or ideas?

My kids are 13 and 10 (boy and girl) and my wife is not a camping type of Lady.

I'm looking for a couple of days of fishing. Salmon, halibut, ling cod, rock fish, etc......(I prefer salt water, but don't mind fresh). Possibly a place that will cook it up for us (Lodge style maybe).

Maybe take in some wild life, trekking, hiking, water tours, glaciers, etc.

Any ideas or shared experiences are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Thanks LB. Have you ever been??

We want to go, but have no idea where to go, where to stay, who to go with...blah blah blah.

Remember, I've been in Dubai the past 20 years...

I have no clue about a trip like this. I'd like to hear from people who've been there or live there...[&:]

I have not been to Alaska.. but been to BC before, but it was with friends and I think we just cross the border.. and I don't remember much from it.. (it was when I was in school.. so.. hmm.. awhile ago..) [&:]

Looks like there's many nice national parks there.. must be a lot to do, though.. !!

That's the difficulty I'm running into LB...

There is an absolute TON of stuff on the net for both BC and Alaska....it's mind-blowing.

Have a super time Tommy. I never went to Alaska, but know people that went and it's quite the experience.

Alaska will be a blast but British Columbia, hmmm...I was kinda bored (well REALLY bored there) BUT I am not super outdoorsy so don't let my thoughts tarnish your excitement. It sounds like BC will begreat for you. Have fun!

Alaska has been a place I've always wanted visit. My wife and kids as well. Keep in mind they've never seen 'real' snow. Both kids and my wife were born here in Dubai. I know, chances of seeing large drifts and having a snowball fight and making angels in July/August are probably not that great, but still, it's a place of stunning natural beauty.

What I don't like doing on holiday though is taking a massive coach with 60 retirees and getting deposited into a landing area with 27 other coaches and having to follow some lady with a blue flag all over the place. I'd prefer to drive myself and find our own way, discover new & unexpected things along the way....as long as we know where we're going and what we want to see.

Fishing is also a big desire, Salmon, Halibut, Ling cod, etc.....and hopefully stay in a lodge or B&B that can cook it up for us and everyone else.

Think I'm going to go buy a Lonely Planet book on Alaska...[&:]
