I got an idea the other night... What if a chat feature was established here on RCU? Thoughts or ideas?

Chatrooms are actually almost the anti-forum. I come to RCU when I want to chill and read a few posts, not bother or be bothered by anyone unless necessary. I wouldn't frequent a chatroom unless I was asked to moderate it. I'm not saying its a bad idea, I think it would probably get enough people in every day to make it worthwhile, I just don't think its something a forum user inherently wants, as that's not what the forum experience is really about. Hope you see what I mean.

Well I wasn't necessarily meaning a "chat room" per say. More like a "Hey I see you are online. I've got a question" One of those kinda things I guess.

Yea something like If I saw you online, I would send you a message about something, you would have an option to chat or ignore. Like an AOL type thingy

It won't be a 20 person chat room. Just between two people. And if someone wanted to add a friend in or something. Beieve me, I was thinking that same thing lol

RCU used to have your yahoo and msn instant message information available if you entered it in your profile. This is going back years ago (it may have disappeared when RCU went through the last great format change years ago.

every forum I've seen that added a chat room the chat room failed. One had on average 1 person in it and he was the operator for it. After 3 months the forum just closed it cause people said they wanted it but never used it lol

One of the forums I'm on has a "shoutbox" on top of the main page.
It works ok there as it's a pretty small forum but a place like RCU with so many members it could get messy.
