Lars, I know what you mean.
Thing is, the legs need to be adjustable to make sure the speaker sits straight.
If I just attach the leg straight to the tube, chances are it won't be 100%.
DieHarder, it was a pretty busy weekend and had a few other things to do.
The speakers are pretty much ready for painting now, just need a final sanding and should be good to go.
I've started on the third tube for the amp.
It's in the lathe at the moment.
Made a ring from MDF for the front just like on the woofer tubes and am building it up with filler so it can be shaped to match the other two.
Then I've just got to wait for the mini amp to arrive in the mail.

It should definitely do the trick for what I'm doing here.
Once I get it I'll have a look at how to mount it, but I'm thinking along the lines of Perspex at the front of the tube, with the amp behind it.
Paint the Perspex of course.
Drill some holes in the Perspex for the volume, bass and treble knobs and probably have the power switch at the back.
Should give it a nice clean look.
Don't wanna get too excited over that until I actually have the amp here though.

The amp arrived today.
It's so small and light haha.
Will be interesting to see how it goes.
Unfortunately not a lot will happen here for the next 1 1/2 - 2 weeks as I'll have little to no free time, but I'll be getting stuck in to it as soon as I can.
Promise.

I made a knob yesterday
Found this old display stand at the dump shop for a dollar which is perfect as I needed some Perspex for the front of the tube which will house the amp.
Knob looks good I reckon
The Perspex will be painted black from the inside

Well I got the volume control sorted in the end, and found an easy way to mount the amp.
A couple of little brass furniture hinges came in handy there.
Who would have thought it would be so tricky to mount square stuff inside a round tube...
Not sure if I'll put the power supply inside the tube or not.

Well I got a bit done this morning.
Made a grommet for the volume control.
No idea what this thing used to do, but it seemed like a good starting point.
Turning rubber on the lathe was a bit tricky but I got there in the end.
Sits nicely on the original volume knob.

Dirty, I know it's been awhile since you started this project but if you're still concerned about the shielding they usually just glue another magnet (north to north or south to south) to cancel out the field. Another thing I would do is get a 50-80 watt amp or you might not be able to hear them if you got tools running. Also instead of a dock add a Bluetooth receiver inside the unit. Rocket fish makes one that auto connects when your in range so you don't have to worry about any buttons or anything. Nice build by the way.

This little amp is plenty to drive these speakers.
You'd be surprised at how powerful it is for a $40 unit.
I'm driving a set of Pioneer 6x9 car speakers (80W nom, 4 Ohm) in another setup with the same amp and it PUMPS!
Got a few busy months ahead but will try to get a bit more done on this unit as it's almost ready for paint
