im trying to go to the track today but the piece that connects to the battery in my car (real automobile) is bad.. its the piece that touches the metal on the battery what is this thing called!!!!!

Battery post, or connector. Or called the battery terminal connector.
How is it bad? You can get them at autozone for a few bucks.

clean it p real good with a wire brush. put it back together.

to get a crap one to work in a emergency ..you clean it , put it back on and if it is looses and you cant get it tight you put a screw or 2 inbetween the post and the termanal and srcrew them in there tight. dont use screws though that are so long that they hit the hood...that would be very bad on the positive terminal

and quite often if you just smack them with a hammer it will work.

what sort of car is it? GM cars and trucks with there damn side terminals can be a pain in the but.

Ford has the best terminals there big thick and lead,

japanese cars and trucks use a thin tined copper terminals and are prety good.

to replace a terminal you just cut the old one off and strip the wire about a inch and put it into a new repair terminal. 2 bucks at a discount auto parts house.

i dont know ive never had one go bad on me..its not getting current
so the car wouldnt start up..just becuase u dont know the name of a small part doesnt make u a female? im 17 i havnt been a automobile mechanic my whole life

Some schools don't have shop classes. The closest thing to a shop class we have is electricity class, we get to use a screwdriver! And sometimes, if we're really good, a drill!!

yeah, what he said^^. ya know, I had a pal in H.S. (he moved away a while ago[&o]), there were maybe 3 or 4 things in a car that he stored the names of in his head, but he was a really good mechanic, he'd fix things for people all the time, perfectly. he would say, "I don't remember what that is called, but I can tell you right now what's wrong with it, and how to fix it" LOL... and he did!
it's not like he said "my car won't start and I dont know why".(um, not that anything's wrong with that either, we're not all mech's.)

I normally don't get this mad but it disturbs me that some people would make fun of a 17 year old just because he doesn't know what a battery teminal is. I had no idea what it was until I read this thread.
