Buy a Mac! imovie is great. a mac is much better suited to process the pics and video.

Well one thing you can do is Download the Vegas trial, that will give you 30 days, and pending on how savy you are, you can prolly re-download it and just keep doing that over and over.
As far as movie maker goes, i know that when i do my previews it shows blurry but when i finalise i can usually set to what ever resolution i wan't. but ofcourse i don't pull the video straight off the camera, i put it on my harddrive first then import it "not sure if that is different"
