first thoughts
my very first thought was
why do you find that disturbing?
next
safer for police - they can concentrate on driving
get uninsured, suspended, etc drivers off the road
maybe insurance rates will come down some
if you have something stolen, it may speed recovery
could easily help in abduction cases

what exactly don't you like
personally
i think it's a good thing

It won't be long before someone abuses.

[ul][*] makes profiling easier[*] it can keep tabs on certain a certain person(s) - cheating spouse for example[*] it wastes resources - sitting in a parking lot watching an abandoned car as seen in the video[*] don't pull these people over because they have money - so what if they have 7 DUI's pending

wow

your worried about profiling
when the use face recognition software
at nearly every airport????

so what if a private dick uses it to track a cheating spouse?
the spouse deserves it

i think it frees resources
so they only stake out
likely targets
can't believe you think it's a waste to watch a car stolen by an armed robber!!!!

the last one you've just gotta be joking on, right???
let repeat dui offenders slide?????
wow, just wow.....

I don't
go to the
airport everyday
but I do drive
a car everyday

There is a
difference between
driving a car
and flying you
know

That technology
is not available
to private investigators
only to law
enforcement agencies
and they are
funded by tax
payers

I knew a
guy who was
a part of a
motorcycle club
and the feds
watched the club
house every single
day and night
even when there
was nobody there

One day he
went across the street
to where the
feds were at and
handed him some
pictures of himself
and told them to
save the tax payers
money

If a person commits a robbery and ditches the car in a parking lot, they won't come back for it!!!!

36 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad checks
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71, repeat 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 currently are defendants in lawsuits, and
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

I cannot tell
you what group
of people those numbers
are from because
the post would be
deleted for breaking the
rules

No there is not really a difference. Both are privileges we as consumer's are given.

There is no right that says you get to drive a car or use a plane and as such there is no expectation of privacy. Your drivers license and license plates do not give you the right to privacy in your car, it gives you the privilege to operate a car legally under the laws of the state.

Americans are willing to sacrifice one freedom after another in the name of safty, its sad really. The media instills fear by constantly reporting negative things when truly its a small percentage.

Soon we will have cameras in our living rooms "To help protect us"

I don't mind they are doing it cause I'm legit, but its another sacrifice of privacy and freedom, in the name of safty.

ok ill admit i think cameras in your house is going a little too far but as for the plate recognition heck. cops see your plates every day. so whats the big deal if they can see and process more than usual. its making them more efficent at their jobs. i dont mind having a cop follow me just to run my plate. it happens to me almost every day.

Ya, I don't mind either.

But its these gateways to more intrusive things.

They have had the scanners here in daytona for a while.

I just think we as a society should be careful on what we allow our goverment to control and privacys they invade.

We soon will be so controlled and so monitored, it will be impossible to fight back against things we truly don't want. When that happens we will be an enslaved population.

Once the goverment takes our right to keep weapons. Its over.

Our founding fathers, knew that a population that can not fight its own goverment, is a population that is enslaved.
Our system works because we all agree in some form on what happens and that we have choices.

Sorry i'm ranting, soon the goverment will say we are only allowed to get so much gas at a time. so there is enough to go around.. talk about control then.. sad sad.

Not just your's, its my opinion too. How can license plates profile? I am for anything that helps bringdown scumbags. I am going to be going into the employ of the criminal justice system, so I don't have a problem. Its doing the same thing cops already do but at a higher rate. It's not an invasion of privacy at all.

So a single mother raising 3 kids misses a payment on her insurance and she is about to walk to her insurance to pay it and the cops scan her plate and find out she isn't insured and give her a ticket, that only puts her further in debt. Ya she is a scum bag.

Thats an extreme example but there is truth to it.]

Thats the majority of what will happen, because criminals are not the majority.

I call it the revenue maker. Capitolizing on other peoples misfortunes

When did tags tell a cop that someone has missed an insurance payment? Tags are either "black" or not, the black sticker goes on a tag where there is no insurance proof given when a tag is purchased. Not a very good argument.

slayerphonics, I'd hope that the cop would understand and sympathize, and allow her to go on her way and pay her insurance. I agree that that situation wouldn't be fair...but on a whole, the system seems to be pretty neat and efficient.

About maintaining your privacy: you're on public roads when cops are allowed to follow you, why should you be allowed to maintain absolute privacy on a public road or in a public place? Privacy is reserved to private locations, that's exactly what the Constitution guarantees us. That's my .02, but I'm sure you'll want change!

That's called "in plain view" nothing wrong there either.

BTW: The correct spelling is democrat, without an e. I will not be voting democrat, they would be the ones against utilizing a system such as this.

That doesn't apply to the case of whether or not a police officer can come into the parking lot and run tags. That is a situational type of argument, but a valid one.

in most states you must show proof of insurance to get tags and registration. when someone cancels their insurance, the insurance company will notify the Dept of Motor Vehicles that the insurance has been cancelled, therefore the police can find a vehicle that has no insurance as required by law.

That is true in FL. Once your insurance is expired the insurance company has to report it to the law. Also if that happens and you dont get insurance quick there is like a big fine that goes up everytime it happens to you. But there is a loop hole my friend found. If your tag experies first and then the insurance experies you dont have to pay the fine cuase you no longer have a vaild tag which you means your are not driving the car anymore...LOL.
