Default Went and did it! Reached a personal landmark.

...aged 31 (yeh, late for some I know, but I was born poor, and everything I ever had, I have earned myself, and this is no different), I am getting my first 'proper' car.

Some of you may remember I posted a couple of threads about 6 or 7 months ago about various sports cars I was looking at, including the scooby WRX and the Audi S3. Well, it didn't turn out to be either of those in the end, for a number of reasons...

Here are my selection criteria, see if you can guess what it is before you click on the pic...

Under 2000cc for tax reasons (yep, 2000cc)
Rear or All wheel drive (yep, rear)
At least 150bhp per ton (yep, 240 total)
Totally reliable (yep, officially the most reliable sports car on the road)
Good depreciation (yep, holds it's value like almost nothing else)
Less than 20,000E for younger than 6 year old example (I 'just' found one that fitted this. It's a 2002, and it's E20k) - car prices in Greece are not like they are in the states, I am aware I could have got an almost new one for that price over there. Sadly (for me, but great for you), you guys in the US are very privileged in this way.

Additional bonuses...

Babe magnet looks
Red leather [>:]
0-60 in 5.6 secs
9k rpm redline (ah, that's the giveaway, isn't it )

Did you guess what it is?? lol, see if you're right... (this is NOT mine, this is just a picture of the same car in the same colour)

http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...6_150_full.jpg

Can't wait. Should have it in about 14 days unless something turns out to be tragically wrong with it...

Any other owners out there?

Thanks man! I'm so excited. The current owner took me out for a spin earlier today. WHAT A CAR! It's true what they say, when you hit vtec, it's like being strapped to a missile! Makes the hairs on your arms and back of your neck stand up! After a couple months when I've got some confidence, I'll do some (amateur) drifting vids.

Yeh, eventually, but no rush, I just want to love, appreciate and polish it for a couple of months first.

Congrats Foxy.. it is a sweet car!! I drove my friend's S2000 before, and it was definitley a lot faster than what I expected given its rating (240hps or so)..

When you are in the powerband, you just feels like you are in a race.. hee!

Keep us posted!!

Congratulations. No need to make excuses for hard work, saving and not being able to get something you want right away.

I ended up waiting over 10 years before I was able to afford my Harley.

Thanks LB, and longhair, exactly, just makes you appreciate it all the more when you waited patiently and worked hard for it.

Wanna race my Silverado? Nice car, rather expensive, but nice anyway. If you have it after the warranty is up you should throw a V8 or something in it, just a suggestion[8D].

Dang, that would be nice to have!!! Too bad something like that wouldn't pull my Toy Hauler.

Congratulations, to be sure! I didn't get my first "nice" vehicle until I was 33, and now I drive a bloody mini-van. And a beater pick up with a brand new 460 to pull the trailer. So I'm way jealous!!! [8D]

Very nice foxy and congrats... I wish i could get a S2000 but for now the civic will have to do. LOL. Although i do have a small VTEC that sips gas (27mph drivin it hard) and even my 110 hp motor gets a small kick in VTEC.

V-tec is honda's way of saying "variable timing" very advanced in it's time, now many cars utilize that tech, my volvo had that tech back in 1995, and obII scs tcs abs ebs and SIPS. about 20city and 26highway not bad for 250horses.

i do like the s2000 though, its a neat little car, however, you put any stickers on it and i will slap you...

VVT has been used in motorcycles since the 70s, maybe even earlier. Anyway...

As for mods, none. Period. I'm done with lowered suspension and bodykits, the only, and the ONLY thing I 'might' do, is add a lip spoiler to bring the front bumper down a little. Has the same visual effect as lowering the suspension, without ruining the cars geometry. Besides, this is gonna be a daily driver.

Thanks for all the nice words guys, I'll post pics as soon as I finish waxing it for the first time.

Yeah, good call.. I wouldn't do anything on the S2000.. the engine is so highly optimized that it is very difficult to squeeze anything out of it without forced induction.. (same as most N/A engine now... this ain't no big block old school muscle car where you slap on a set of exhaust and you pick up 30-40hps, ha!) And from what I read, it is not easy to squeeze out more out of the suspension unless you go pretty extreme.. (and the incremental yield is not huge anyway..) My friend's S2000 has a set of TEIN coilover, though.. (but he is kind of nuts..!)

Maybe the only thing I'd do to a S2000 is a set of big brake kit...

Indeed, it's already the engine with the most horsepower per litre of any production NA engine at 123hp per litre. Most people don't realise that even adding CAIs and big exhausts, you will not gain any performance. In fact in some cases, you lose it. Both CAIs and exhausts are done for the noise value only. The Invidia system sounds superb, but I won't be doing it, much as I think it would be fun, it's just not sensible for a daily driver I'll be driving to client sites, etc. etc.

The brakes are one of the best things on the car, like dinner plates. No worries there.

LOL, just trying to say that if there's one thing that I'd do.....

I think the stock setup is 11.8"? (I forgot..) I am sure they are just fine for street use.. but see some people that track their S2000 running larger rotor with multi piston calipers..

Anyway, I say drive it first.. ha!

You're right of course, drive it first. This is more car than I've ever owned before, but like al things, one gets used to them, and that's when thougts wander toward what can be improved, and also what improvements the budget allows! I'll keep you guys informed.

I have to confess I quite fancy NOS, just so I can purge it through the wheelwells when I arrive at a club. lol. Pose factor extreme.
