Any LCD is susceptible to that kind of damage, in my experience Apple ones are no more delicate than those on other DAPs.

Still, it's sad

True. Actually my PSP's LCD has a crack with dead pixels around it and the halos around the cracks are getting even bigger.

Since it's dead anyway check online. There are bound to be replacement screens and instructions on how to replace them. I know that's what my son did when his i-pod hard drive crapped out on him. Probably lots cheaper than a new one.

Dave is absolutely right there should be plenty of guides on how to do it. I just looked on ebay and there are replacement screen going for 25 dollars and it comes with the tools to do the job.

You'll need a new back too. The factory has the back held on so well it gets bent up trying to open it. Check out ifixit.com for parts and such. The service from them is great. They'll also answer any questions you have.

Less then $9 shipped for a new screen, also including the ipod opening tool (the only item you need for the job). Just find a guide on youtube or google and $9 you'll be back in business. Lucky for you, the 2nd gen nano screens are much cheaper then the 1st gen screens which is what I've got (not sure about the other gens).
