To the parents of teens..
This is directed at the parents of teenagers that aren't 13, but 16-18.
My mom continues to treat me like I'm 12 years old. I will be 18 in August (5 months) and I asked to go to a friends in the neighborhood and she told me to be home before dark. I feel like she is over reacting and I'm fed up with it.
I never ask to leave the house being that I like my solitude and peace but when I do ask she flips out like I'm going to go smoking crack. The majority of 17-18 year old that I know have much looser "rules." No real curfew, cars, parties, "Hey, I'm sleeping at _____'s house" with no questions asked. I can't go to a party for nothing, can't sleep at someones house unless she talks to their parents and is afraid of me getting a car. I think she knows that I'll never be home.
Chime in. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Wow. Your mom is very strict. My mom doesn't care because she knows that I would never do anything shameful like drugs. That and I have no friends.

RE: To the parents of teens..
I can go to friends houses till 10pm (sometimes, depending if they're having people over that long or not) but my mom knows the parents. (I'm 15 turning 16 on the 31st) I can go out a play with friend till 10 or so at night (but I'm with my bro)
but if its to some one my parents don't know then that a different story, but usually my parents know the parents of my friends.
When I was younger (like 12 and younger) I couldn't even leave my yard! [X(]

You only get one MOM. Listen to her and love her. She is not wrong for loving you...and yes thats what it is....no adgenda needed. I keep a tighter than normal leash on my kids too. They like it since I am their best pal. I spend a lot of my time playing with them. Is she involved in your day to day life? Like playing games, maybe a movie on the couch? I hope you can hold off til your 18...she is not trying to hurt you...

IMO it is a bit ridiculous if your 17 and you can't be out past dark.

RE: To the parents of teens..
You are wrong.
You are wrong to try to resolve this on an internet fourm.
You should be sitting down with your mother and father and having a quiet, reasoned discussion about your feelings and why your mom thinks that she needs to keep such tight control and why you feel that you should have more freedom.
Bottom line, IMHO, as a parent of kids that are a good bit older than you, I'd take complaining on the internet as a sign of immaturity.
Again, talk to your parents, they are the only way things will change, not beotching on an RC fourm.
Or
Wait until August and move out. You'll have all the freedom and responsibility you can handle.
I don't really mean that as harsh as it sounds but really open communication and showing maturity to your parents are the things that will bring change.
