I have it too. The firmware annoys the poop out of me, but my girl uses it, so I don't really care.

No, it's the annoying front end (the menu that opens when you insert it). I haven't removed the partition that holds it, and I'm not even sure if it is stored in a partition, I haven't even checked, I'm just assuming. The reason I haven't looked into getting rid of it is that my GF already has a load of stuff on it, and it's not in my hands any more. One day I'll see if there's a way to get rid of it without losing the data, but as I say, I'm not using it so I don't care. It's just one of those annoying graphical frontends, I'm sure there must be an easy way to get rid of it, don't worry. It's a great value for money drive anyway.

Is it a User Interface that Western Digital themselves made? Instead of that little box that pops up asking what you want to do with it? Cause on the descripiton it says preformatted, Im guessing thats their firmware, First thing I would do is just reformat it.

Yeh it's WD frontend. There will be a way to get rid of it easily. I just haven't checked because my GF stole it the very second I got it. I just thought I'd mention it's very annoying (the frontend and the GF).

I bet just formatting would solve it. (If it was new so you didnt have to worry about losing data)

Sometimes they're in separate partitions, and occasionally they're secured. I'm sure that's not the case with this one though, jus sayin...

A low level format (bios if you have the ability), will normally get rid of them as sledgehammer solution, as it ignores partitions and formats the entire platter.

No doubt, the hackers are always one step ahead.
