RE: VW BUGS
I miss my bus... my first car was a 79 bay window Transporter. I kick myself every day about selling it.

RE: VW BUGS
the bug- the car that can have only 30hp and still be cool.
I will have one some day, put a roll cage in it and a subaru H-4 turbo. |

RE: VW BUGS
ORIGINAL: The_Shark the bug- the car that can have only 30hp and still be cool. Instantly recognisable by generations and most people either love them or hate them. I bet just about everyone in the world has owned a VW or knows someone who has. And has a story to tell about one. The aircooled flat 4 is a brilliant little machine when maintained and driven properly (which means slow) A bit hard to get to, especially in the vans/pickups, but so easy to remove and put on the bench. We used to have a Kombi van for a school bus when I was a kid. :) Every morning (and afternoon) we'd put put along windy dirt roads through the forest. Happy days. I don't think I'd buy another one any time soon unless it has a fully reconditioned motor, and it'll just be a weekend cruiser in that case. |

RE: VW BUGS
Yeh I was more referring to a stock motor.
That one seems to have been fiddled with a bit... |
RE: VW BUGS
DVP, that distressed SC pickup is awesome!
Nothing more fun to drive than a bus. In '69, I had a '63 Kombi panel in Dove blue that was my first RC transporter. In '80, I had a '74 bay window in the same color. The Type 4 in it was warmed up a bit, would do wheelies in 2nd and just over 100 on the flat. I'd give my left one for a '67 or earlier panel or single cab. [8D] |

Remember when the beatle was THE go-to car for most kit-cars on the market?
I miss some of those old-schools cars today... Bill S. |

That one seems to have been fiddled with a bit... reworked? just a little.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif still a daily driver though mine's got a stock engine in it (for now) with aftermarket exhaust. and i used to thrash on that thing. 60hp and i was doing doughtnuts and burnouts and speed runs. "street raced" another friend who had a 67 bug at the time. both of us had stock engines with aftermarket exhaust. about a 3 mile stretch we were racing off every light, hitting speeds in excess of 45mph! lol that was a fun night.<br type="_moz" /> |
RE: VW BUGS
the only vw i have left:
http://42green.com/random/petesbeetle.jpg 74 std, 1915cc, straight cut & welded gears, fast little bugger. the seats are kind of comfortable, until you take a turn, it's hard to stay in them. lol |
RE: VW BUGS
I have built a couple VW's when i was young putting 327 chevy motors in them and a rolls front end kit. When the new style bug came out i tried putting one backwards on a chevell frame and using to new big tail lights for head lights in the middle ,my parents got wind of it and stoped me saying i would have gotten to many tickets. I moved on building old willys jeeps and never returned to the VW's. I still think it would have been cool getting passed by a VW on the exspressway at 70 mph going backwards. joe

Twin V4 motors in the front.... although in this case, in the back, as it was meant to drive backwards.... I'm not sure if it ever drove but it was featured in a couple of magazines, and my dad reckons he saw it once at some car show.
