Are you holding it to the engine block?it wont spark unless you do..otherwise sound's like the coil is bad.

Yeah, the plug is sitting on the head.

Sounds like a coil problem. Also check to make sure the kill switch (if it has one) isnt sticking.

Condencer?
[sm=confused.gif] what?

Toki 04-09-2008 04:28 PM

RE: Weed eater engine problem.

The condenser is prolly bad. i do not know much about 2 stroke weed eater motors. but i do know 4 stroke lawn mower engines 99.9% of the time if the plug is good it is the condenser that is bad on those engines.

is that the same as the coil?

There's no condenser on this engine.

I think 4 is what went out on it.

RE: Weed eater engine problem.

yes it would be #4 that i would say is bad. i would say put a volt meter on the plug wire and spin the motor buy hand you should get a spike in voltage if not then that would be my guess is #4. i mostly work old 4 stroke and if their is no spark it is points and or condensor i would imagine that is all in part four done electronicly.

Condenser is an antiquated term for capacitor.

RE: Weed eater engine problem.

anyone know what it should cost? (just a guess. I'm guessing $20)

RE: Weed eater engine problem.

i do not think it would be to much prolly around that. i am sure it is a comon part.

RE: Weed eater engine problem.

JB i believe the part you need is called a Module--Ignition looks like they run about 20-25 bucks and come with a plug wire.

Toki 04-09-2008 06:03 PM

RE: Weed eater engine problem.

sorry one more thing remember to put a meter on it to make sure that is the part you need.

This is what they call it- 4 M112518 ELECTRICAL COIL 1 010001 - 075000

in the automotive field we call it a spark coil or ignition coil.

very very easy to replace.

most weed wackers i garbage pick (hey theres something with a motor on it!) usually are thrown away because of a bad coil or cracked hoseing.

This on was given to me because they didn't want to mess with it, and they also gave my Dad a Ryobi 857R that I think needs the carb rebuilt and the attachment.

amazing what people will throw out due to a minor problem, you can also try taking the plug out of the engine (grounding what needs to be grounded), and pulling the cord in the dark and seeing if you can get a spark from it

he's already past that point
see post #3
there is no spark

if the coil is not bad, which it probably is
the only other thing i can think of would be a ground / kill switch wire that is shorting out

There 15-20$ and is very easy to replace.already come with pre attatched plug wire's,doesn't get any easier.

LOL, you make it sounld like this is HVAC, the condensor on a heat pump (AC for most purposes, but in America, what they refer to a "heat pump" is an AC that can pump heat from inside to outside but also be reverserd to pump heat from outside into the house).

Yes, this is the coil that you are talking about, the #4 in the parts pic that was posted.

no i do not make it sound like A/C what i said was i do not know much about 2 stroke i do know 4 stroke lawn mower engines and guess what. they have a condensor. a coil is used on a car engine not a small engine. A small engine uses a condencer well atleast old ones (thay may have changed the name). that is why this showed up after i wrote that ? so no this is not A/C you are right about that. i was just trying to help the guy out. he had a problem and i knew something well a little about the subject and it seems we got further to figuring it out. you added nothing to solution at all.

old 4 strokes also have points and no i am not talking about Multiple point calibrated HVAC flow rate controller or optimal set-points synthesis for HVAC or technical points of view with most HVAC systems. i am simply talking about the points on a 4 stroke engine in amarica.
