Default 92" edge 540 DA50-R ore MVVS 58

Have anyone experience whit the MVVS 58 cc engine on the edge 540.
The MVVS should have more power than the DA but weight about 22 oz more.
If I use li-po batteries I maybe can compensate a part of the extra weight of the MVVS.
I now have to decide whitch engine I should use so I can drill the firewall and assemble the exhaust and build it into the fuse.

I think the weight difference is more like 12 ounces. The DA is 52 ounces with the ignition, and the MVVS is 64.2 ounces with the plug and ignition, without mufflers. I just got on the list for a MVVS 58 from Canada. I'll have it in three weeks. The Hybrids have been a touch tail heavy, so a bit heavier engine won't hurt too much. I'm going without wheel pants, 6 ounces, and without a spinner, 6 ounces. Knock that 12 ounces off what we've mentioned, and you end up with nearly nothing which you won't notice on a plane with this big. You may need somenosw weight to get this to balance. Either way it will be under 18 pounds which will make it an awesome flier for sure. Keep the post active by updating occasionally.

Thanks for the replay, I order the MVVS58 next week at MVVS.nl

What kind of muffler did you use on the edge.
I have modified the fuse to build in a krumsheid muffler, the best way is to build a glass fiber tunnel into the fuse I think.
In Belgium the noise an rc airplane may produce is limited to 74dB(23ft) so I can not use a pits muffler because it produces more noise I think.

I really hope my hybrid doesnt come out tail heavy. I am going with the DA-50. If I cant get it to balance without adding weight then I know a hybrid that will be up for sale.

That's what I've been reading in the forums. I'm pretty sure if you build the tail area light, and use the pull-pull which is in the design, you'll be real close. Some of the rudder- fin-stab-elevator sticks in my kit are VERY heavy. More like pine than balsa. I used them anyways, knowing they are stronger than needed, but also knowing my engine set-up is a bit heavier than a DA-50. Even if it does come out a bit tail heavy,it's not a big deal to me.

I'm going with a J-tec Pitts style muffler. It should be the lightest set-up, and our field is out in the middle of nowhere, so there are no noise restrictions.

Just finished my Hybrid about two mo. ago DA-50 MTW canister You guys are going to love this plane . It was a little tail heavy first flight but very flyable, the second day I got to fly i moved the 4800 mAh radio bat. to the front compartment. and bought a 30% carbon tailwheel assy from troybuilt models. DA-50 has plenty of power,its the easyest to hover plane i have ever flown. and shoots out of a hover. The plane has 2 per. side futaba 3050 ailerons, 2ea. hitec 5945s elevators , 1 futaba 5050 rudder as close to the canister as i could get it. My plane is real quiet with canister and when i fly i can hear the people talking in the background its a show stopper. MSC 23X8 at sea level. Tombob

WOW!! That is a beautiful Hybrid. I can only hope mine turns out as nice as yours. What was the weight of the completed plane?
I bought my kit from someone else who started to work on it. I've worked on it for only 5 days and I only have to build one more wing then cover it. It was an easy build, pretty straight foward design.

Marzo91: Thanks for your comment . I'm not sure on the weight,I put the fuselage on a digital bathroom scale and it was 12.5 lbs with everything in it. I did not leave any thing out when building this plane, I even put the wheel pants on. I cut 3/8" out of the middle of them to make them look thinner ,like the profile. This plane with flaps down will takeoff with just two clicks of throttle at near a walking speed. I thought the hardest part of building this plane was the fuselage .boxing up the canister and mounting the rudder servo down in the belly the fuse. gets pretty thin behind the wing tube. Haw did you build the canister into the fuse?
Did you build a glass fiber tunnel, ore is there another solution,any pictures.
This is my first "big bird",so I can use advise.
I have ordered today the MVVS 58 engine and krumsheid muffler.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll be asking some questions down the line. I started the build about a week ago, and it's in the bones already. I have all week to get it covered. Gonna go with an all yellow top with a trick flame job. The bottom wil be red with some sort of contrasting color. This was a easy kit to build. I've built about 15 kits throughout the years. This was by far the easiest giant scale kit. Everything is super straight, square, and right on the money. I don't know if it's the shape or what, but this thing just fell together. I'll try to get some pics here next week.
I set up the ailerons with one servo. I guess I'll just spring for some 8611A,s for the ailerons and rudder. I have some Hitec 5645's for the elevators.

Boy, what a perfect job on the whole plane. Everything looks A-1. I ordered a regular Pitts style muffler from J-tec. Hopefully, it will help make things easier for me. now that I see yours, I can see that that is the trick set-up.

Now it is clear to me how I can build the canister into the fuse, straight forward.
I made it to complicated.

Here're some pictures of the Hybrid I started about a week and a half ago. I've been spending alot of time on it, but it's going together quickly. Originally I had a Brison 3.2 for it, but now I'm going with a MVVS 58 and a standard Pitts style exhaust, single 8611A's on ailerons and rudder, TBM LI-ions, and as you can see, mostly red and yellow covering.

You will be much happier with that MVVS 58 versus the Brison 3.2 motor. The Brison is a good reliable engine but not the type of power needed for teh Hybrid. Now the Brison 4.2 is a great choice though. It looks really nice Marzo! In case folks have not figured out yellow is one of my favorite colors on my planes.

This has been the most fun I've had building a kit. It builds quickly, and accurately. I can't seem to stop working on it. At this rate I'll have it ready to fly in a week or so, but there's still too much snow to fly at our field. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Nice colors, you can't mis this bird in the sky.....


I ordered the MVVS58 ($945) but it is in back order, they did me an offer to buy the 58 PROSPORT
for only $36 more!
This engine output 8Hp thats 60% more than the DA50[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] ,I don't now maybe thats to match for the airframe.
And is this engine smooth in comparison whit the 58IFS / DA50[sm=confused.gif]
Not to forget the fuel consumption.

I ended up getting the Prosport too. Just have to be light on the left stick. I also glassed and tri-stocked the engine mount/firewall.
I think the 8 hp figure, even though published somewhere, is inaccurate. I think it's more like 6.5 hp..... Just right!
