This is an ARF and not a kit. Right now we can only ship to US and Canada due to the size limits of this box. Did you try to order one?

Bottom is solid white. Lots of room for custom graphics like the traditional Pro Bro logos!

Hello,

I really wanted the 65" Yak ARF from OMP to go with my OS 1.20, but it's out of stock and will be for a long time. My second choice was the 67" Fusion ARF, but that is also out of stock.

It is safe to say that an OS 1.20 (slightly larger than a .90 and weighs 21 ounces) is too much motor for this 56" RazerYak?

I need a 3D trainer profile but finding something that fits the OS 1.20 motor has been more difficult than I expected.

I don't have the skills, time, or patience to build the kit (even a profile kit).

Thank you for your time,

David

This is correct and we know this from the Pro Bro site. Since we never got a prototype on this ARF we never had one to do the manual. There is a comprehensive build thread on the Pro Bro site although I don't think I can link to it from here. I'll try to post the link over on the OMP forum on that site. We have one of the ARFs to Brent and he's taking pictures for the manual as quick as he can. If you want to follow some basic instructions for a profile please check out the online manual for the 47 Edge V3 at:

http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/47edge/47edgev3.pdf

The assembly is VERY similar, just different shaped parts. We'll get a manual online as quick as we can.

Mike:
I think I can build it without a manual. But at least provide CG location and control surface deflection information.

CG about 33% of root chord. RY can go further back as it likes to be a little tail heavy..........I think.

Deflection information - High Rates - all you can handle; low rates - about 50% of that.

These are estimates your actual results may vary.

One more question. 56Razoryak has a bigger rudder than my 65 yak, also from OMP. Rudder servo needed to be bigger than 90-inoz for the 65yak. Assume this will be the same for 56RazorYak. For 65 Yak I settled on a JR servo w/400inoz. Probably overkill, but it stopped flutter problem.

Thanks JM! Good advice. In the profile world that's pretty much the setups. High rates = all you can get! And typically the low rate switch never gets used.

400 oz is about 3 times the servo you need for this rudder. Even though it is big the weight of the plane is a primary factor. I'd say a good quality servo around 100-120 oz would be more than adequate.

These are very popular with the pro bros and rightly so. It fills a great nitch as the ultimate 60 size slab. It's hard to say how long they will last Rob but if I guessed I'd say they will be sold out in a few months or less.

The kit is very well made. It looks great. I would have preferred a better method of attaching the fin to the fuse. I will probably reinforce with a 3/16 dowel on top of fuse. Also the Yak 65 had better control hardware. 56Razoryak has metal Yak 65 carbon fiber & ball joints for servos. But if Razoryak flies 1/2 as good at 65 Yak I'm happy.

Another question. I just started fitting stab into Fuse. The slot in the fuse is over 1" too long. About how far from the tail should I slide the stab? There is a lot of room here, maybe the stab designer didn't tell the fuse guy that you made the elevator movable surfaces bigger. I'm thinking put it aft, then I will have to put a plug in the extra slot, & patch my new plane (the slot in front of the stab).

The stab. will need to go all the way to the front of the slot doutcalt. The reason the slot is so large is because when I designed it my intentions were to have the elevator joined at final assembly. So in order to slip the counter balances through the slot it has to be that large. You will just have an empty gap in the back. Nothing to worry about. These are just profiles which is the beauty of them. If you mess up by joining the elevators, then you can slip them through the gap and then install the stab..

There is no need to dowel the fin to the fuse. You need to mark where the fin goes on the top of the fuse with a pen. Take the fin off and then use a sharp razor blade and cut the covering from where the fin will mount. You will also need to remove the covering from the sides of the fin post that slides down between the fuse. sides.. Once the covering is removed then slip it in place and hold the fin tightly to the fuse and hit it with thin CA. This will hold very well..

Some have asked about what size servo to use. I like to us the Hitec 5645's or 5625's. Both of them on 6V work great. They have plenty of torque and speed to boot. Plus metal gears. Please don't go over board on the tail servos. Anything heavier than these servos will require some nose weight most likely..

Also on the CG. 8.5" back from the leading edge is the sweet spot for this plane. Some have it at 8" and some at 9". It is really your personal preferance though..

On surface deflection. Ailerons can be as much as you can get for high rates. High rates for elevator 40 deg. Rudder 45 deg. Low rates can be set at what you are comfy with. Start low and go up from there. I would recommend expo on your rudder and elevator. They are very powerful.. I have 60% or so dialed in my elevator and rudder. And about 35% in my ailerons...

Thanks Brent! There you go guys, expert advice from the designer himself. Brent and I are working feverishly on the "official" manual. In the mean time keep the questions and pics coming and we'll all be here to help.

Hey Guy's I have just started working on my OMP Razer 56" YAK .I just happened to be at the LHS and the owner told me he had just got in three and mentioned to me that he was going to call me to let me know he had just received them. a month ago he asked me about this one and if he should get one, I responded with, ONE? you better get three so he ordered three. By the way he got them in the day before Thanksgiving, that's the day I picked mine up. I went down today to pick up some covering and found out that the other two are gone he sold all three YAKs, they didn't even make it out on display. I was planning on getting one of the other two he had left today for back up, but ended up empty handed he sold all three in just two days. I have flown my OMP 65" at most the fields in the Black Hills area and every body who watched and that I let fly were very impressed with the way the 55SP 65" fly"s , more than likely why he sold all three 56" in a couple of days.
Mike and Brent you get two thumbs up on all the improvement that I have seen in this Impressive OMP Razer 56" YAK. Way to go Team OMP !!!! P.S. The OS 120 2 cyl. should be awsome at these higher Altitudes and is only 3 ounces heaiyer than the OS FX 91. By beveling the engine mounting rails slightly the OS 120 2 cyl is a Perrrrffect fit. LOL
