RE: New 56" RazorYak ARF
Hello,
I really wanted the 65" Yak ARF from OMP to go with my OS 1.20, but it's out of stock and will be for a long time. My second choice was the 67" Fusion ARF, but that is also out of stock.
It is safe to say that an OS 1.20 (slightly larger than a .90 and weighs 21 ounces) is too much motor for this 56" RazerYak?
I need a 3D trainer profile but finding something that fits the OS 1.20 motor has been more difficult than I expected.
I don't have the skills, time, or patience to build the kit (even a profile kit).
Thank you for your time,
David

The assembly is VERY similar, just different shaped parts. We'll get a manual online as quick as we can.

Mike:
I think I can build it without a manual. But at least provide CG location and control surface deflection information.

CG about 33% of root chord. RY can go further back as it likes to be a little tail heavy..........I think.
Deflection information - High Rates - all you can handle; low rates - about 50% of that.
These are estimates your actual results may vary.

One more question. 56Razoryak has a bigger rudder than my 65 yak, also from OMP. Rudder servo needed to be bigger than 90-inoz for the 65yak. Assume this will be the same for 56RazorYak. For 65 Yak I settled on a JR servo w/400inoz. Probably overkill, but it stopped flutter problem.

400 oz is about 3 times the servo you need for this rudder. Even though it is big the weight of the plane is a primary factor. I'd say a good quality servo around 100-120 oz would be more than adequate.

The kit is very well made. It looks great. I would have preferred a better method of attaching the fin to the fuse. I will probably reinforce with a 3/16 dowel on top of fuse. Also the Yak 65 had better control hardware. 56Razoryak has metal Yak 65 carbon fiber & ball joints for servos. But if Razoryak flies 1/2 as good at 65 Yak I'm happy.

Another question. I just started fitting stab into Fuse. The slot in the fuse is over 1" too long. About how far from the tail should I slide the stab? There is a lot of room here, maybe the stab designer didn't tell the fuse guy that you made the elevator movable surfaces bigger. I'm thinking put it aft, then I will have to put a plug in the extra slot, & patch my new plane (the slot in front of the stab).

Some have asked about what size servo to use. I like to us the Hitec 5645's or 5625's. Both of them on 6V work great. They have plenty of torque and speed to boot. Plus metal gears. Please don't go over board on the tail servos. Anything heavier than these servos will require some nose weight most likely..
Also on the CG. 8.5" back from the leading edge is the sweet spot for this plane. Some have it at 8" and some at 9". It is really your personal preferance though..
On surface deflection. Ailerons can be as much as you can get for high rates. High rates for elevator 40 deg. Rudder 45 deg. Low rates can be set at what you are comfy with. Start low and go up from there. I would recommend expo on your rudder and elevator. They are very powerful.. I have 60% or so dialed in my elevator and rudder. And about 35% in my ailerons...

Thanks Brent! There you go guys, expert advice from the designer himself. Brent and I are working feverishly on the "official" manual. In the mean time keep the questions and pics coming and we'll all be here to help.

RE: New 56" RazorYak ARF
Hey Guy's I have just started working on my OMP Razer 56" YAK .I just happened to be at the LHS and the owner told me he had just got in three and mentioned to me that he was going to call me to let me know he had just received them. a month ago he asked me about this one and if he should get one, I responded with, ONE? you better get three so he ordered three. By the way he got them in the day before Thanksgiving, that's the day I picked mine up. I went down today to pick up some covering and found out that the other two are gone he sold all three YAKs, they didn't even make it out on display. I was planning on getting one of the other two he had left today for back up, but ended up empty handed he sold all three in just two days. I have flown my OMP 65" at most the fields in the Black Hills area and every body who watched and that I let fly were very impressed with the way the 55SP 65" fly"s , more than likely why he sold all three 56" in a couple of days.
Mike and Brent you get two thumbs up on all the improvement that I have seen in this Impressive OMP Razer 56" YAK. Way to go Team OMP !!!! P.S. The OS 120 2 cyl. should be awsome at these higher Altitudes and is only 3 ounces heaiyer than the OS FX 91. By beveling the engine mounting rails slightly the OS 120 2 cyl is a Perrrrffect fit. LOL
