There is a bag that contains the carbon wing tubes....along with 5 very thin carbon rods. What are the thin rods for? I dont see any mention in the manual.

Thos are not carbon but metal pushrods I believe you are referring to.

Those should be your control rods... elev, rudd, 2 ailerons, and throttle.

Hmmm...I ll have to take another look. I know that I already have metal pushrods with the clevises which were taped to the box. These rods I speak of aren't threaded or anything. Well, I'll take another look.

Hey guys

On this Pro Yak, I have an Os 61 fx its a little heavier than the Os 55. But it weighs the same as the Saito 82. Has anyone used this combo? If not what do you think of it?

As I recall the .61fx wasn't too popular for this type of application because it weighed nearly as much as a .91 but wasn't a real powerhouse. Might be fun though if it's what you have available.

We know the 55 and 82 work well.

Ernie is right on the mark, don't use a 61 2 stroke as they are too heavy and you won't be happy with the results. Yes folks have put 60s on a 40 size slab but most 60 motors are the same size and weight as the 90 engines. The 61FX is the same case as the 91FX. Go with a 55AX.

I just called all 3 LHS and no one has the Saito 82 instock, all 3 stores said they have been out for a couple weeks or more...SO I guess I will be stealing a 55Ax off another plane. On the 55Ax what prop do you suggest for the best overall performance?

My new yak will be here on Tuesday, I can barely wait...LOL..

The APC 13x4W works well but lately I've been using the MA 13x6Scimitar S-2 series prop. Same pull and rpms but half the price!

Many seem to go with the 13x4 on the 55ax. I will be using Xoar for fast spool up and pull. I was rather impressed myself when I received my proyak. Nice looking bird. I will be taking a week off of work next week and might have to set aside a few days to get this thing together.

If your LHS is out of the .82, have you thought of buying used? I recently just purchased my first used engine and was VERY please with what I got. I picked up a very slightly used 55AX for 99 on ebay. Runs great and was in excellent shape. It was practically brand new. Of course I made sure to ask the right questions, and look at the seller's feedback rating.

There are also others on there. If by chance you can find a NIB 82 for $200, I would call that a great deal. Might have to be patient though, and dont let the bidding get the best of you.

Have you guys added right thrust to the plane? Wondering if I will need to plan on using washers.

The manual say to add about 2 degrees of right thrust, I would think it would be needed since it is a straight plank, but that is a good question. Unless OMP states otherwise, I plan to when mine arrives tomorrow.

Ok guys I just read thru the manual and it keeps mentioning the use of CA instead of apoxy. Is there any specific reason for this? This is included where it mentions gluing on the tail surface's, vertical and so on..

Since the construction is all wood you can use CA with no problems. Of course you can always use epoxy or your favorite adhesives. I like CA as I can set the stab in place, align perfectly, set the position with pins and tape and then wick some thin ca carefully into the joints and I'm done. Epoxy is too messy!

On the engine it is purely a personal thing if you want right thrust or not but you will need to compensate somehow for the spiralling slipstream effect which is why all prop planes have right thrust. About 2 degrees or so is a good compromise. Otherwise you can mix right rudder with throttle like some pattern flyers do.

Make sure you use an OS F plug on your .55AX....makes a night and day difference!! The Xoar is awesome in a 13x4 with the APC sport 13x4 (not 13x4W) right on its heels. This will make for a perfect combo

I received my plane today by UPS and was greatly suprised that the outside box didnt have the normal wear and tear they usually arrive with. After opening the inner box everything was neatly packed, and in great shape. I started with the usual ironing of the entire plane and never encountered a single wrinkle. That was a pleasant suprise, so I mounted the gear and laid out my next days steps.
