RE: GWS glue is shameful
You're having trouble because GWS glue is not glue at all. It's contact cement. Brush a thin layer on both pieces to be joined, assemble them, pull them back apart and let them sit for five minutes, and rejoin them. It will dry in a half hour. Problem solved. Good luck.

I have used my tube from my Pico stick plane for over a year now with no problem at all so start searching for information instead of blaming a company for selling faulty things.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
I have to agree with the last few post's....
I have used this stuff on a Tiger moth, Beaver, Zero, and Spitfire and it works great when used sparingly. Takes a little while longer to dry when used thicker, but the bond is very strong either way!
For repairs however, I would either have to go with foam safe CA used with some Kicker or ProBond for bigger jobs.
I love the GWS glue!

I use epoxy and the GWS glue both. I use the GWS glue for stuff I think should give a little and the epoxy for stuff I want held solid in place. The epoxy sets up hard and fast and a somewhat brittle.

yep4: I thought the GWS glue was slow until I used it like it's intended. It's not glue, but contact cement that is better than epoxy for fusalages (it's flexible) and great for their mylar hinges.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
There is nothing WRONG with the glue! It's simple,
(1) Spred on the glue THIN
(2) Let it get tacky (let it sit a couple of minutes)
(3) Put together
The secret of using this stuff is how to use it the right way. You don't glob it on like 2-part epoxy and leave the room. GWS gives you this type of "cement" because it is lighter than 2-part epoxy!

RE: GWS glue is shameful
I just built a new E starter and I used the GWS glue it works great if you dont mind getting a little on your fingers.
My steps: I like to lightly sand both sides of the fusalage to get rid of all the little bumps and stuff then I test fit the fusalge to make sure it fits good, then I grab one side of the fusalage and put drops of the GWS glue about every 2 inches and then using a finger spread a thing coat over the places that need to be joined then take a rag dipped in a little rubbing alcohal and wipe off your finger and any glue that might have run over the the edges then press the 2 halfs together make sure that you have let the glue get on both sides of the fusalage then pull them apart and let the halfs sit for aanywhere from 3 to five minute I like three if its a little colder then go with five. then when you press the halfs back together make sure you get it right the glue acts as contact cement and it sticks, then it only takes about 15 to 30 minutes to be fully dried..
If you have any questions email me!

You could use good old epoxy brushes too(bout 6 for a buck). And you shouldn't glob the glue on anyways.....even if it is epoxy. Remember the Cardinal Rule boys n' girls.....'Thou shalt build light, light, light!!!!'
Happy building whatever you may tack with[8D]

RE: GWS glue is shameful
The real shame is that there aren't better instructions supplied in the GWS kits as to use of the glue and better descriptions of assembly steps. I just built a Tigermoth, thank goodness I had everyone's threads here to help me.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
I read a review of a GWS planee recently. The reviewer was making hte same complaint. He contacted GWS and they explained that it was contact cement and how to use it. Spread, join momentarily, separate till it gets tacky, then allign and join. It is super strong and super light.
Watch the allignment because once it grabs, they said you really can't adjust it much.
If you don't like it, use epoxy.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
well know that i know how to use the glue properly, it should help in the future (if i do build another AND USED THE SAME SORT OF GLUE.) GWS have actually named the contact cement
"glue" in the contents of kit which is shown in the instructions.
This is what step 2. (4) says for the mustang.
"GLUE the tube in place with GWS GLUE.
So they have realy said the exact oppisite to what it realy is.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
no matter what i still prefer the gws glue to the two part epoxy.because the epoxy use on my gws tm, made it brittle and just break! the contact cement is alittle flexible even after dry which is good so it could withstand impacts.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
The GWS glue is fine.
It takes a while to cure but it is light and allows flexibility. I usually give it 24 hours to cure. I am patient when building and I get tired of it too, so I use the dry time as an excuse to take a break from it. My first plane I was anxious to get done so I can relate to the complaint.
Use the the 5 min epoxy for things you want rigid. Rigid things will break.
Both adhesives have their strong points and their weak points.

When I used it, I glued the fuse together and was still not dry 3 days later. The glue kept driping out. I will try the contact method next time.

RE: GWS glue is shameful
i perposly left a drip inside the fuse so i could feel it to se if the glue was dry, and through out a whole week it keept on getting harder and harder, and the drip was not all that big.
