Default Long Flights on NiCD or MiNH

I bet this has been asked a million times, but I can't find any helpful info on my situation...

Ok, I have a Slowstick and an ICS50, or 50E (not sure). Either way, it can take 5-8 cells, and 7.2-9.6V i think. Stock Speed 300 Motor. My flight pack came with a 7.2V 270mAh battery, and I can fly for about 4 minutes before it dies on me in mid-air. Luckily I can usually save it (haven't broken the plane yet)...

Does anyone have any information that can help me get longer flight times? Thanks.

You may want to try NiMH or lithium packs.

If you have the bucks, go lithium. I garantee you won't regret it.*

I think your shop might've sold you a flight pack meant for the Tiger Moth/Pico Stick series of planes. What ESC are you using? ICS50 won't take the abuse for long.

Get yourself a 7 or 8 cell pack of 720mAh AAA NiMH cells. Same weight, way more power (like 56% more!!!) and lots more flight time.

Get a 2S1P pack of Etec 1200 or Kokam 1200HD Lithium Polymers and you should be able to fly for the best part of an hour. You will need a charger that has LiPo support though (the Great Planes "Triton" would be a good choice for this).

My favorite pack for the GWS Slow Stick is the 8-cell, 800mAh, 5/4AAA, NiMH pack from [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/128538.asp]Hobby People[/link] for $28.

This pack is often on sale and can also be purchased from Batteries America.

It will fly the Slow Stick for a long time.

Good luck!
