Wattage Hawk(motor soldering) Q's
I just got my wattage hawk in the mail. Everything seems great, but this will be my first time dealing with soldering to a motor since I always use GWS motors with wires hooked up already.
The book says if I buy the wattage esc I won't need to solder. Is this true? I would like convienence but I also like using gws gear because it is relatively cheap and I have had good luck with it.
Any info ony easy soldering or wire hook-ups for motors would be appreciated.

If I understand this correctly you currently have NO wires attached to the motor terminals??? You CAN solder the wires from the ESC directly on to the motor terminals, but I don't like to do this because that prevents me from using the ESC in another plane. What you have to do FIRST is to choose the appropriate connectors - Micro Deans would work well, as would MP Jet Gold Connectors. It is best if you have compatible connectors on battery, ESC and motor. Attach 18g-20g wire to each of the motor terminals - use a 25W soldering iron, 60/40 rosin core electrical solder - and a polarized male connector or two male connectors to their other ends. The ESC-motor wires need a polarized female connector or two female connectors. The ESC-battery wires need a poloarized male connector or a male and female connector, and the battery leads themselves need a polarized female connector or a male and female connector. Keep your wires reasonably short, but not too short to allow components to be adjusted back and forth.
