Default Guillows Cessna 150 RC

I just finished building a Guillows Cessna 150. I took the plans from the kit and roughly increased them to give me a 40" wingspan. The plane has a four channel. Throttle, elevator, rudder, aileron. I have put six flights on it. Unfortunately, the first two were unsuccessful. initially the airplane weighed 22 oz. a little too heavy. I had to do some major re-mods to get it flying. The first two flights, the airplane was covered in Super monokote. Too Heavy. I had too recover the entire airplane in Solite. I also had to replace the Battery. I had originally used a Wattage 7.2 volt 800 Milli amp battery which weighed almost six ounces. I replaced the battery with a 2 cell E-Tec 1200 Milli amp lithium polymer battery which weighs 1.8 ounces. After all said and done the airplane now weighs 17.6 ounces. The airplane flies well. I am using a GWS EPS 400C-AS a 2.14 to 1 gear reduction ratio, turning a GWS 9X7 prop. The plane takes off in about 50 feet climbs out semi-fast. It will loop with a dive, spin, slow roll and do touch & go's. Flight Time is just over 8 minutes. Very happy with it. A great stable airplane. The fuselage was built a little more sturdy than how the plans originally had it. The cowl was built out of Carbon Fiber. I will have some pics, and plan to build another Guillows Airplane with the plans blown up. So far this one worked with success. I started to build this in September of 2003 and made a successful flight in late December 2003. I will have some pics tomorrow.

I'd be very careful running that motor on that batt pack, your batt pack is safe to 7 or 8 amps, and the typical 400 pulls 10+amps.

Thanks for the story.
I like to read those.
Guillows has some cool kits. I may build the 20" Cessna 180, build by number. I will double the plan to 40"
But dont think I need the 400 for power, seems a bit much.

The Motor is actually a 380. amp draw is around 7 amp. I am going to build the Guillows Cherokee 140, I have the plans for it. My next plane I am going to build is the FLY RC L-19 Bird Dog. I sure like the the Cessna 170 and L-19 Bird Dog.

Here are a couple of pics of my Cessna 150. I will post some more. These are some pics of when I started to cover in Monkote. I had the entire airplane covered in Monokote and it was too heavy. After I uncovered the entire airplane I had to go back and make some modifications which you don't see at this time.

Here are some more pics of my Cessna 150. It is flyable the way it is, but I am going to do more like paint the cowl same color of the airplane and put the balsa back over the main landing gear to give it a better scale appearance. The Plane flies great. Eventually i will take some air shots.

I finnished my 180 some time ago. It flies great. Weight is 12 oz. Used a dual ips motor with 8060 prop and a 2 cell 12ma li.
I just doubled the plans to 40".
Guillows kits can be built much lighter.
Now for the bird dog.
