Default throttle question

beginner, trying to learn a few things before making a purchase. Does the throttle control allow you to shut the motor off completely or do you need a special switch, I've noticed some radios listing something like an engine kill switch. It seems like cutting off the prop before a crash would prevent some damage. I'm looking at a Hitec laser 4, or possibly a 4 or 5 channel hitec computer radio.

Yes, when using an ESC (electronic speed control) it allows you to kill the motor. The planes you've read about that have a kill switch probably don't have variable speed, just on or off. I am new at flying and have found that killing the engine before a crash or when landing sure saves a lot of props. As far as the radio goes I own a Hitec Laser 4 and am very happy with it. Also if your looking into getting a beginner plane I would highly recomend the GWS Slow Stick.

Thanks, thats a big help, I've been looking into the slow stick, looks like a great option and am leaning that direction. Right now I'm tring to educate myself a little and plan to start buying in a couple of weeks. It is sure hard to wait, but the purchases I would have made a week ago would have been a mistake, so the waiting and learning seems to be a good idea.
