Mod Challenger Landing Gear
After plenty of tears I have managed to make a good workable landing gear. I went to my local hobby shop and they provided me with some duplicate landing gear cable. What I did is to make a simple level straight leg instead of the usual vee. I drew the conclusion that half the problem was the vee, even though the steel is very strong, was bending too easily. The simple straight leg is more robust. The original hobbyzone wheels are far too small and were replaced by larger wheels. The weight is near the same as there is less metal. It works very well, a bit of messing around trying to get the steering straight. On take-off lift is generated easily enough considering the lower horizontal position of the ABC,and on landings it provides plenty of bounce so there is enough shock being absorbed. Its sort of funny after trying and testing all sorts of designs the best was the most simple and obvious.
