Default AeroBird Replacement Wing

Hello everyone,

I've been flying the AeroBird for about 4 months now and I started my RC Flying with the Outlaw whcih I found to be a very good beginner plane.
Believe it or not in about 4 months of flying I still havent broken the wing on my AeroBird yet, although the battery died on a hand launch once and it plummeted to the ground 5 feet infront of me, with the prop digging into that protective orange guard on the wing, minor damage.
My question however is I would like to experiment around with building a wing for these planes because sooner or later im going to start breaking them and they are quite expensive at the LHS, $23 canadian. Are there are guides that can give some idea's on how to build a wing like the aerobird's out of foam, cardboard materials, etc.. ?

Thanks for some help,
Ron

The wing is the stock orange one and I started flying for about a month in the stock mode, but tried the Expert mode with v-tail mixing and found it much easier to fly the plane. Have been using expert mode since.

reinforce the wing with some carbon rod on the LE and TE.. its basically indestructible after that.

i believe it was 1/8 but you could probably get away with something a little smaller

Re-enforce the wing with a carbon rod running under the underside of the wing, I only use one running down the centre of the wing I don't think there is any need for two.
Get some double sided tape, measure it out and place the rod on the tape which you have already attached to the underside of the wing press it down firmly then stick a piece of broad sellatape or clear packing tape over the top. It will stop the wing from folding if you are doing fast loops, makes the wing almost unfoldable.

Good Luck.

that definately works too, but i like doing the LE and TE because you can smack into things and it doesnt damage the wing

The idea is to fly gracefully, not to smack into things! Ha..Ha....no I know what you mean its just that im not really happy about putting anything under the wing in case it effects the flying characteristics. One in the middle of the wing is maybe allowed but two on both edges I think maybe pushing it a bit. The planes that I've seen with a carbon spar in the wing have been inserted into the wing for that very reason.

Take care..

indeed i agree gracefully but he wanted durability. anyways adding to the edges hardly changes the shape of the wing at all.. its probably less drag than putting it right in the center of the wing like that, however i have never tried so i dont know.

either way hes got some good options to work with

cheers
