Hi Hollywood,

Nice collection of flying videos you have on putfile.com. [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]
The AB on skis was a riot to watch! Is the "Ray Ray Texan" flight video still on your old site?

Take care,
Ray Ray

Grounded, 70 mph…. That is too much for me. I have also been looking for a way to move the servos out of the stock tray. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a bracket or something. Doc’s method sounds easy enough.

With the 400T installed, I have had to add 7 quarters to in the nose to balance the CG. The servos in their stock position are behind the CG point. I’ve wanted to move them ahead of the CG point so I can eliminate or reduce some of the added weight. All of that should help the performance quite a bit, I think.

My poly wing that I’m using now has 2 reinforcement rods imbedded in it. One is from my first wing that broke in a crash. The rod looks like fiberglass to me. I peeled up the yellow tape to expose the one that is factory installed. Then I beveled a second channel into the wing’s foam directly behind the existing rod. Glued the second rod in and replaced the yellow tape. You can’t even tell it is there.
I recycled something else from the first wing … Thought someone would notice them in the photos I posted yesterday…. “The Decals”

Doc, Nice video library you have there. Since the rain is coming, I’ll be checking them out throughout the weekend, or I may be swimming! [sm=drowning.gif]

excellent news on the zagi front. three great big parcels arrived today from tower, a month before i expected them and they include the basla aileron strips that i can use for the zagi. somebody had decided to send the 2 gws palnes and the box of balsa airmail rather than surface, which i had paid $40 for less $25 discount. cost to tower for my $200 order, $100 !! i'm amaized and really grateful. hopefully i can get some plastic for the zagi wingtip fins and battery cover today and have it ready to fly soon. yippee !!

Any of you guys looking for a glue that will stick to the Badius fuse and other planes with that type of plastic, I have found a glue what will work. It's made by Loctite. It's simply called Super Glue, but it comes with two parts. It has the glue and an activator. This stuff really works! You just put the activator on both parts, add the glue and press together. If you have cleaned the plastic good it will stick almost like it welded the plastic together. It doesn't but is almost as good. Where I have tried it I had to use pliers to pull the pieces apart!

It's worth a try!

Have you seen the new section for poster at the bottom of the post? My Models? Kinda neat. Has a "hanger" to list and describe your planes, start your own blog, etc.

Hi All,

Well, Looks like most of the rain is gone for now (see ya Dennis) Captain, hope you faired well through it!

Sticks, Thanks for the tip on the new feature. I looked yours over a little. Pretty nice Cub photo you posted there. What have you been flying lately?

Doc, I watched a bunch of your videos... Wow for only a year, you guys (you, Kyle and Howard) sure have been busy! I've gotta agree with RayRay, The Skis video was GREAT [sm=thumbup.gif] I never saw the Ultimate you have before either. All that low altitude inverted flight and the rolls. It sure looks to perform quite well. ...nice piloting!
(Doc, FYI. I have a broadband connection and experienced some jumpy playback. Thought I'd do a "save-as" and playback the file locally. I could not find that to be a viewers option from the PutFile.com site)

Doug, You and your son get all those boxes opened yet? Must feel like "Chriatmas in July"

As for Lou...(and where he has been) .... I'd bet he took the dog for a walk! Beginning to think Pappy was onto something when he said "Saddle him up!"

Hi Badius Dudes and Dudettes,
Since I haven't done beans latley I thought I'd add an old post to cheer me up. Ooops. Cheer you up!
Hi All,
Just a short flying story.
While out testing the stock prop this morning, I came in for a landing and caught a small gust of wind. The Badius tried to veer into the farm so I tried to veer Badius back onto the dirt. One thing that happens around here is that many people use the dirt path that runs between the railroad tracks and the farm. Some jog, some walk their dogs and some ride dirt bikes.
I get Badius back under control at 5 feet up. Not enough to get her onto the dirt path but close enough. I hit a 4 inch irragation pipe (not easy to do) and skid right onto a pile of dog you know what. Leaves a small skid mark of the fuse.
Geez!
Lou

hey, my contact at shun-da has moved. he says he's working for the best rc company in China now. he's going to send me some pics and prices so i'll post them once they get here. probably going to rain for the next 3 weeks, so first up is to repair the zagi - really looking forwards to flying that again. then it's the badius speedster 70mph racer. got everything for it now, the motor turned up last night after many beers !! couldn't get any fiberglass resin locally, but i bought some FRP (if anyone knows what that is) from the local car shop, which may be black (spoiling my lovely orange wing) and is used to repair bumpers (fenders) on cars and should be pretty strong, so i'll give it a try. wing and front of the fus are likely to be the critical points in this plane.

hey Lou, i remeber that story !! that's one thing you haven't done again !!

Hi Doug,
FRP is fiberglass reinforced plastic. Might even work!
I'm looking for the Humpty Dumpty story.

oh thanks Lou, that's excellent. hey guess what, i spent some money on something that's not aircraft, cigarette, beek or kids related. had to buy a new expresso maker. cost just more than the badius speedster motor !! also bought 2 small metal models of a tornado and an a10 for my desk. only $6 each and they're great. planes no 150 and 151 in the collection. actually, i'm thinking of building a twin brushless a10 after watching Brent's vid - i'm interested in d/f and also hobby lobby have a df tornado, but as that's $400, i think i'll pass !

Hi Grounded.
I think a brushless A10 would be a great plane. Tee hee. The 3 cell lipo makes it flyable but really needs the brushless fans to fly well.

Default RE: The Badius Owners Club

To all you new guys, I still fly like this. I posted this almost a year ago on the old thread.
Hi Grounded. The standard prop is 7 X 5. I've tried a 6 X 3 and a 7.5 X 5. The larger one is a bit much tho it still works ok. The 7 X 5 is the one I prefer.
I saw the F27. I don't want another RTF. I'm going to try to sneak in the DC 3 when wifey isn't looking. Towerhobbies.com has it and a video.
I went out around 6 PM to fly the Badius. During the day I took her apart and lined everything up as best I could and checked all the electronics to make sure things were ok. I had all 4 bats with me and started with the 1100 mah. Wind was around 5 mph. Maybe a bit less and I give her a toss. I get about 3/4's of the altitude Brent flies at and just start cruising the farm. The badius is holding her altitude well tonight so I cruise the outer limits of the farm. Now I'm starting to get a little bored so I start to chase birds off the telephone lines. That didn't take long so I try to gain some altitude and point her into the sun and the prevailing breeze. Big mistake. I've been flying a while on this bat and I was at half throttle for a good part of it and the Badius hasn't gained the altitude I want and it occurs to me that I don't have much time to bring her back. I'm now at the top of the phone lines and trying to figure out which way she is heading. I try a right turn and off to the left she goes. I figure it to be no problem except that she is heading into the wind and the sun and I lose her. I give her a bit more throttle believing that I can get away with it and try to nose her up cept I still can't see her. Aah, there she is. Going into a stall. I give the controls a little down elevator and she's getting a bit squirly. I try to turn her away from the houses and she circles a bit and hits a phone wire and she drops like a rock. I'm over 700 feet away and I can't figure out which yard she is in but I have my name plastered all over the fuse nd I figure I'll get her back sooner or later. I walk a bit trying to look over fences but I can't see over most so I go home. I tell wifey, (not because I want to but because she sees me without the plane), And she goes knocking door to door till she finds the plane. Ole badius looks pretty darn good for hitting a phone line, then a roof and falling to the ground. Wifey tells me that the gal that found the plane told me her hubby saw the plane fall into his yard and thought it was a gift from God.
So, the Badius is home and tomorrow I'll take her apart and check stuff.
Happy flying,
Lou

.Hey Doc, the reason I want it is because I DO have a bomb drop. And, Im getting the cam. Then I would like the ability to add something else, gear/lights/rocket launcher/etc... I am falling back to the 6 ch though. Its 60 bucks cheaper anyway. And o yea, guess what I got the idea to do wile on rcgroups. I'll get the gws floats to put on the magpie. Should be sweet some day... And by the way, I do appreciate your advice as always.

Grounded, I have no idea about ordinance stuff. Young Sundance seems a bit up on it.
Sundance, Ya gotta think real hard about a new tx. I thought a 6 channel would be fine so I went out and bought the Airtronics RD6000. The whole setup with servos, rx and the rest. Worked out GREAT till I wanted a heli. While 6 channels will run a heli, it only will if it has heli mode. And that's a big if. Turned out mine didn't have it so I had to get yet another tx. This time I got the Hitec Optic 6. Does most everything but I found that programing it was archaic. I took it back to the LHS and told them. They all looked at me and agreed it was a bad way of programming a tx or anything else for that matter. In order to change programs you had to turn it off, press 2 buttons at the same time and then turn it on. Turning electronic anything on and off all the time isn't good. You send small electronic spikes through it everytime you do. So, I traded up to the Airtronics VG8000. 8 channels is great but like Brent said, I haven't used 2 channels for anything yet and may never use them except on the heli. I think that the way to go these days is with the Balsa products $30 tx and get a better tx later. If it was available when I was shopping around, I would have gotten the Balsa prod one. As it turned out I literally waisted a few hundred bucks in my desire to get a new tx NOW. Save your cash for other plane stuff and do a real upgrade on the tx later this year or better, next year. Wish I had done what you have the opportunity to do.
Or just say what the heck and do it.

Thanks for y'all's concerns. I see what all of you are saying, and I do admit I've had a few dumb purchases in my life: $300 video editing I cant use, $350 bike my bro rides more than I do, $300-400 of paintball stuff used for maybe a couple of years ( no more than 15 times a year, not much for that kind of money). So maybe I'll wait a little bit. It's just that I REALLY want some more friggin channels[]. The reason I said I was thinking about the 7ch is b/c of what you were talkin about, versatility. I am pretty daggum sure Im not gonna go to helis, at least no time soon, just not my style. the 7ch futaba has a bunch more stuff than the 6, so thats where I am. Maybe I will just wait, and maybe go for a top notch 7 or 6. who knows.

On another note, the A-10. For bombs, use a hunk of those little snap'n pops. thats what Im plannin on. as for a machine gun, look at micro-electric airsoft guns. This is a site with a bunch of em http://www.iisports.com/dept.asp?dept_id=5150. I dont have one, but I'd think you could disassemble all the useless parts, and just have the firing mechanism..

Grounded,

Interesting prices for the Shun Da items. Seems that the AB has been renamed to 'Thunderbird'now?

I have seen the Su-27 (2 channel) on eBay. I have been thinking about buying 1 and convert it to 3 channel and a cdr motor. High shipping prices have been keeping me away from buying one.

Also the JH-7 looks like an interesting plane... may need conversion to brushless too.

Regards from The Netherlands,
CD

Ok I did something dumb today, went into the LHS and walked out with a Slo-V.
Wanted something to just putz around with. PUTZ????? I can smoke a whole pack of cigarettes in the time it take to make one lap of the field. And thank goodness there was no breeze. And that was on a 7 cell. Suggestions on a brushless set up to give a little more thrust and speed?
I'm going to switch out all the PZ stuff anyhow before it craps out, so might as well go all the way.

Default RE: The Badius Owners Club

Hi Everyone,
I now have over 200 plus flights on my Sky Hawk plane since April. I have learned a lot about the Sky Hawk plane and its flight characteristics. I really like flying the Sky Hawk plane. Shunda has made a great RC plane.

Hi grounded in japan,
I noticed that some of the planes have Laishing on them. I have a Laishing Thunderbird plane that I bought back in December that I am currently putting thru my flying regiment. I am truly impressed with the power and handling of this plane from the few flights that I’ve done so far.
Also grounded in japan, I was wondering if there is an email address or web link address available for inquiring about possibly buying any of those planes (and the parts). Some of those planes look really interesting and I might be interested in a couple of them. An interesting plane is the NO.312 Cessna that I believe has around a 4 foot wingspan and a 540 motor.

Hi carlf,
I was wondering if you have been still flying your J3 Cub plane and how you like flying it.

Thanks,
Pilot Ray
