Phil,
I'm thinking of going with the Hitec D/C 6 channels. As I need flaps and retracts. Are quite small.
1 mile range, and like the 555's so far the've been trouble free.

Terry,
You done bailing water out yet?

I'm going to do a "Help me build my plane" build on the gas to elec conversion section.
Like I said, I'm a newbie all over again, on this one, so I'll be looking for all the help I can get.

GG,
I would take a look at digital servos, Mike is right, they are the best of the best. I presently only use Futaba coreless but when I get my next large bird I will go digital. It's only money

GF2;

"Its only money"... spoken like someone who HAS some

For me, it's more like "I would, but I have no money" (I am on a strict RC budget since wifey found out how much I spent in the last 6 months) [:@]

GG;

We were really lucky. We live about 13 miles West of Dulles airport. We only got ~6" of rain, they got >18" [X(]
So, no water in the basement, didn't even loose power!
Only thing that happened is that last Monday there was a mudslide that closed the beltway (both directions) for about 10-12 hours. I called in, and worked from home that day so it was more academic than reality for me

How about you guys? Hows the "ranch" - have you had an opportunity to see if any damage was done? Sure hope not...

Lou;

Hope you have a great trip, say hi to everyone (in person) for me and take it easy on Brent - he did just crash his heli, you know...

Terry,
Going to run up there this weekend to see if anything happened. Glad to hear all's ok at your end.

Well I just got off the phone with Tomas at VQ models, he offered me a sweet deal on the retracts and struts, 30% off their regular price on the Spring Air units.

Hey Brewer...Be sure to check them out... although I sent you 2 servos I don't believe that they both are in working order... but the bad one may be needed later for spare parts....

Thanks-- soon as I get a chance I'll plug each one in and see which works. I might pirate the good gears to replace the bad ones in my original servo.

Terry,
Money! What's that I have dreams of what it would be like to have money, I would hire my own personal builder.
I'm really looking forward to the 4th, looks like the weather will cooperate with temps in the mid 80's, much better than the 101 it is here now.

Shikrabeast,
Yeah, you got me there, but you all have swimming pools [8D]
It's actually OK because the humidity is only 20%. Usually it's 50%

Terry,
It was almost your fault. I went to order the servos...........1 in stock, and they are closed for vacation till July 10th.[X(]
But I did a little surfing, and found out they are Blue Bird servos. Located them at NitroHouse, couple bucks more apiece, but they had em.
Also found some forums on them, car/truck guys are saying they are holding up better to the abuse then Hitec and Airtronics versions and 3 and 4 times the price.

You got past that one. LOL

Shikrabeast

Do not get the 400 version, ONLY get the 300 version.

The 400 motor requires more voltage to perform = more weight.

Get the 300 version, get the cheap Raidentech servos, SD rx and the SD speed control

$8 servos X2, $10 for rx , and $10 for the ESC SSOO for $36 + the plane cost you can get it in the air and use the same tx OOHH remember to get a crystal set too + $8.

This was how I put my first Slow Stick in the air, and when you switch to a real tx, you'll only have to change the rx in the stick.

OOHH watch any of the movies Hee Hee Hee

OR option B, buy a slope glider version of the Slow Stick ( this comes with out the motor or landing gear) for $18 ( last time I bought one), get the $8 servos, and the $10 rx, BUT.

Then get the $9 brushless motor and the $15 ESC and go brushless for total of $76 ( just about the same cost of going brushed).

Now if that doesn't confuse you I don't know what will Hee Hee Hee

Brent

ps. Will video Lou's arrival and the fireworks celebration, video @11

Brent,

I bought one too. [] I thought it was a heck of a price so I jumped. SHoulda asked you guys about it first. What kinda of voltage will it need or can I put an esskay xt on it and be alright? I can always ebay it if that would be the right thing to do, get rid of it. It's already shipped.

GG [X(] That is just way to much for me to imagine having to work on.
Hey I took a little tiny step today, I installed a steerable tail wheel on my Cub. It's really cool being able to actualy steer the plane on the ground. A first for me, now I just have to learn to fly it
