Hollywood,

It's just been so busy around here with all this art stuff, I just haven't had much time for the planes. The art season is coming to an end so I will have more time. I got my Omei ESC in the mail today, so I should be able to get that done and ready to take the maiden soon.

I have been poppin in from time to time, but not posting, as not much to say. I just like to see what trouble you guys are getting into

I know Lou & Hazy have been fighting over who gets to fly the Heli

Doug, It sure is good to have you back, glad everything is ok. lets here so Far East stories.

Pappy;

I know rules forbid you sharing anything about the art business here, but if you have a website PM me, I would like to see some of your stuff

Haze or Lou,

Terry is right, you need big ones to fly that heli of yours

Tailwind
ORIGINAL: TerryE

Hazey;

It is perfectly normal to fly / drive sideways
That is one of the things that makes helis so challenging. If you are using small balls at the ends of the sticks, get large ones. I use "whiffle" balls, they are about 3-4 inches in diameter, plastic, and have a lot of holes drilled inthem. This way they are strong and light. Make sure they all will rotate freely.

I would suggest (I know this is gonna sound funny) driving practice. By this I mean the following:

Get the heli "light" on the skids not off the ground, just take most of the weight off. Then practice skooting across the pavement, left and right, forwards and back. Pretend that you are in the air and you will start to get a feel for the the thing. If it starts to get away, just shut down and let it skid to a stop.

This will get you used to some of the "unusual" ways a heli can move (like backwards and right at the same time)

Have fun

Did we loose some pages?

There is still a lot of detail work to do, planking on the wings, ailerons, trim and sanding to shape, etc. , but, I thought I would show you where I am!

Hey Rog,

Looking Good. Lou will be proud of that baby

Lou,

Maybe, you should get the G2 or G3 flight simulator program

I have crashed thousands of dollars of heli and it didn't hurt a bit.

I have the G2 Flight Sim and it is well worth it, especiall for heli learning.

Hi Capt,
I keep thinking about a sim but can't bring myself to do it. I was thinking about the cashola I've spent on flying stuff so far and it's a bit scary! This addiction is worse the the meds.
Hey Sticks. That plane looks great. My bro and I are very pleased. I still have no idea for the motor. Anyone have an idea an I'm open for it.
And what did happen to our pages? Are we still on the outer limits of acceptable? Maybe it was only the pets pages that got deleted.

Hi All,
Anyone care to guess how many pages would be deleted if a particular person was deleted?
Perhaps a European?

Delete update. I just cruised a few pages looking for the DUD.
Gone. All the stuff from the moderator might be gone too. Didn't see it in the cruising. So since we don't need DUD rules anymore I suggest we stick with the (BD)SM55 rules.

Haze, if you don't already have it, you could try the FMS flight sim. It's free and has heli's. I think. The program is not as graphic as the pay ones, but, it is pretty realistic and accurate on the planes I have flown on it.

I am still two or three weeks away from needing the motor. There is a lot of easy, but, time consuming things to do to finish. I have to sheet the upper front of the wings and that takes time to prepare the wing for it. A lot of removing bumps, stray glue, etc.

These goofy instructions say to use TAPE!! for the elevator![&:] They say it is not supplied and they give NO indication of what type of tape to use! [>:] It seems kinda of an insult to use tape for hinges on a plane of this quality. I am going to look into affixing real hinges there instead. The way they made it, it won't be simple, but, I think I can come up with an acceptable way.

Believe it or not, installing the canopy is going to be time consuming to get it to fit nicely. Not hard, just finicky.

About the missing pages:

I just looked at the new forum rules, and this caught my eye, may explain why we lost some posts...

HARASSMENT & FLAMING:

... Please note that this also includes the posting of taunts on a forum solely for the purpose of demeaning that forum's topic and/or members.

Goodbye DUD

He is not even on the members list anymore!

Oh yeah, BADIUS notes :

Too windy to fly anything, especially the Badius. Badius sits waiting, as do I for better weather.

SM55 satisfied

Hazey, let me know how driving practice goes

Here are two shots of the elevator.

What looks like a nick on the elevator will not be there on the finished product.

Hi All,

We definately lost some pages. Refer to Doug's post below. His post was on page 45 yesterday. Today that same post is on page 38.
There are 7 pages unaccounted for. I wonder what was deleted?
Hollywood, lets go back to the archives.
I'll check the all of the Omei posts.

Sticks - Amaaaaaaazing work with Lou's plane.

Tailwind.

ORIGINAL: grounded in japan

hi guys, the thread got blocked and now it's at page 45 !! when i left i was on page 20, and i figured that you'd be about here now. haven't got the patience to read all that stuff, so please let me know if there was anything of significance. by the way is our friend from europe still causing grief (better pm me on that one).

well i got back today and my Dad's fine now - he's gone to live in the UK with my brother. spent the most money i've ever done in 4 weeks, but the good thing is i just checked my shares and they shot up by the same amount as i spent so God or someone is taking care of the finances !!

no money left for rc stuff, good job i bought everything last year !! now, back to my winter building projects. dare not go skiing again this year as the wife will collapse if she has to look after the kids for another day alone.

Hey Sticks, I thought you were sick this week. You're making great progress. I'm going to have to put more thought into the motor. What size prop will fit. Might be able to put a 3 blade on it because of the space.
Windy and rainy here today so no flying.
RE: the FMS. I don't have a control unit for it. Have to do the keyboard thing. Sucks. I just use it to take off and watch the plane go off into the sunset.

Haxey;

If you look around, you can find adaptors that will allow you to use your real transmitter with the sim. I found my adaptor on ebay, although there are links from the FMS site to various adaptors available.

If you can't find one, let me know and I will see if I can find the link where I bought mine...

Raining again here today. You guys should have seen the look of relief on the weather babes face. They've been predicting doom and gloom for a week and nothing happened. Pretty funny.

You can also use a $14 WalMart joystick that has two sticks like your tx. That's what I use. It hooks up usb.

Hazey;

With all of that said (about sims, etc) unless you have a pretty fast computer I don't know how much value the sims will be. I tried them on my wifes computer (450 MHz p2) and the results were very disappointing - the reaction times were so slow that it gave you a false sense of confidence. As we well know, the heli responds entirely TOO fast [X(] most of the time. I tried it on my computer (3.4Ghz P4) and it was a lot better, although still slower than a real heli.

Just wanted you to know....

Sticks;

A bit slow, but not so noticeable.
I am not flying pattern planes, so with the slow models I am flying it is not distracting.
With the helis is is slow enough to be noticeable.

I have to leave for Hot Springs in a little bit. My son was chosen for the intercollegiate band for the state and their show is this afternoon! He plays a mean sax!
