Hi Lou,

Just tried that. No dice. [:@] Stock ESC and servos work fine with stock Badius Rx, so we can eliminate those components as the culprit.

Just a thought. Do you have the correct shift receiver for Hitec? I am sure you checked this, but, just grasping at straws. Hitec is negative shift.

Yes Sticks,

Its a negative shift Rx for a Hitec Tx.
Anyone else out there using a Hitec 555 Rx with a Hitec Tx. Is your Rx crystal label blue?

Thanks,

Tailwind

Tailwind, I have a Hitec Flash 5 and Flash 4 tx. My crystal has a blue tip on its tag. I have the Hitec Electron 6 rx, but, they use the exact same crystal.

Sailfish7 here, thanks all for the information. I live in the rocky mountians at 10,000 feet above sea level. If the badius is a sail plane what is a good flying area? I would think a west faceing slope into the wind and weather. Are there thermals in cold weather climate? Are winds and slope just as good ? Can this plane stay up without power? Thanks Salfish7

Tailwind

The rudder needs to be ch #1, the elevator need to be Ch#2, and the ESC need to be ch#3

there are 3 colored wires on the servo, on the Hitc it is Black, red and yellow.

Black is Negative, Red is positive and the yellow is the signal

The AB ESC is black, red and white, this black and red wire provide the 5 volts to the rx from the esc.

all the connectors should be plugged in to the rx so the colors all line up.

for example, all the black wires should be on the right.

I think Fireball is correct and you have the connector in back wards, don't worry you don't do any damage if you plug it in back wards, things just don't work

Hope it helps

Hi Hollywood,

Thanks for the response. I am testing the Hitec 555 Rx and Hitec Laser 4 Tx with stock Badius servos and ESC.
All of the colors "line up" with the white wires facing inside.

I think I have a problem with the Tx charger.

More to follow...

Hi Guys,

After some testing last night, and with the help of Hollywood and Haze, we confirmed that the Tx charger is faulty.
Hollywood showed me an alternative way to charge the Tx (at least temporarily) so that I could test my new flight pack.

Thank you Hollywood, Haze, Sticks and Fireball for all your ideas and suggestions.

Take care,

Tailwind

Hi Sailfish,

Welcome to the Badius Club. First off, let me say that I love your state and wish I were there.

About the thermals in colder climates. Yes there are thermals of course, just look around for the birds. They will give you a good idea of where to try. I was in Colorado last year, and we visited a glider club, just north of Durango, so yes there is good if not great thermals in the mountians. Also upslope soaring, but being in Florida, I don't see any of that, just thermaling.

When I catch a thermal, my neck gives out before the plane is ready to come down.

Lou, That RC show yesterday was fantastic, best part was a 16 year old who gave a heli demo that was absolutely the most incredible thing I have ever seen. This kid did things with that heli that defied all. The crowd stood up for a standing ovation when he was done.

I wish I had videoed it. I have seen many do similar stunts, but this kid , WOW!

Omei is now ready to go, but raining here, so as soon as I get a weather break, off I go.

Hi All,
Badius notes. (Hard to believe, isn't it?)
But first, I had Hazy exorcised at the poetry club in Ojai last week. They told me that it would take the rest of the week to be free of him.
Didn't work. Hazy tried to fly the Badius.
On to Badius notes.
Charged up the bats, set up the tx for ole Badius, checked the wind, checked the Badius and gave her a toss into the windless sky. Hazy didn't quite check the controls very well so full right rudder and hard left she went into the deathspiral. Since the plane was only 20 or 30 feet up there was no chance of recovery. I reversed the rudder and gave her another toss. Up she goes. Down she goes into the farm which is now hard packed from all the rain. Tweaked the fuse so I now have that familair accordian look. Doh! I check the servo directions and low and behold the rudder is still moving the wrong way. DOH! DOH!.It occurs to me that the rudder is actually the aeleron servo. Ok. I reverse that, straighten the fuse out a bit, check for whatever else I can see and toss her up again. Full right rudder and she's sorta going straight. I try to bring her back down into the farm and I have no trouble doing that. Straight down on the prop. Darn it. Last folding prop in the box.
So home I go with a distressed Badius. I'm going to take her apart and see what the heck I did wrong. Sheesh. I know this has to be the work of Hazy as I would never have this trouble.

Excuse me Hazey,

May I speak to Lou for a moment please?
Lou, you were doing so well earlier this week with your great ideas for reinforcing the Omei wings.
Your thoughts and posts were clear and articulate.
When are you finally going to get rid of this Haze character? He's mucking up your program

Pappy - Please don't forget your video camera for the Omei maiden. Let one of the Chuckie's video
tape it for you.

I'm off to fly....

It appears that deep down I like ole haze. Keeps me company on those lonely nights.
I have no idea why I had soo much trouble flying old faithfull. I've flown this plane all over Hells half acre with out much trouble. Cept the train tracks. Today I thought I would just have a bit of trouble staying out of the puddles. I'm sending Hazey out to fix the Badius. Keep him out of trouble.

RayRay,

I will sure try to remember the video camera and hope that there is someone that will do it for me.

Glad you got your problem figured out. I knew that was the problem all along, but wanted to see you suffer Only Kidding

We all sometimes forget to keep our TX batteries topped off, and one day we will have a fly away because of it. In your case the charger was just not doing it's job, bummer.

Hazy, tell Lou to get off your back. Without you he is nothing

Hey Capt, What kind of winter resort are you running out there? Rain? At this time of year? What are the Canadians and New Yorkers to do?
Oh, and all those young punk kids can fly a heli better than me.
Your new best friend Hazy says Hi.

Hazy just came in with a Badius damage report. Says I need a new fuse and tail wing. Everything is tweaked just so.
Doh!

Hazy,

First rain we have had in months, we really needed it. Between the hurricanes and no rain we are looking pretty sad. I would never come here on vacation.

We're supposed to get more rain this week. I think it will be light but the gloom and doom guys are hoping for the worst. Keep showing reruns of tragedy.
Off to fix the Badius. Maybe break out the epoxy to get the Omei going.

Hi guys. I got in three good PT-17 flights yesterday, except for the landings. All three landings were good, but, resulted in the engine mount breaking on the first two and gearbox shaft bent on the last one.[>:] I finally decided the new prop is a little too long for this plane where there is any grass on the runway. The moment the wheels would touch down the prop would catch and flip the plane. I put a stronger wooded mount in the last flight and resulted only in bending the shaft. I like the performance of the new prop, I just need longer landing gear! The old parkflyer props from GWS are flexable and would not grab the plane. This Master Airscrew does not bend at all! Prop..3 Stearman....0
