Grounded,
Ouch, that's where I was buying mine too.
Tower .125" x 24" tubes = $3.49
Kite supplier .125 x 48" tubes = $2.85 and price drops the more you order.
Take a look. http://www.goodwindskites.com/goodwi...ultrudedcarbon

GG,

I bought mine from the LHS for $2.49. They measure 2.8mm x 24" and are made from MidWest also.

I installed the CF rod in my new Stryker in the underside going left to right near the back of the plane. My fear is that I dremeled too close to the motor mount area, about 4" from the trailing edge, and in doing so will cause this sensitive area to weaken. I could always fill the grove with CA for added strength.

The grove for the CF rods measure 3.5mm deep. I will post some pics later.

Your thoughts,

RR

Hey guys,

I finally painted my new Stryker. It was supposed to be midnight blue but that color doesn't do well in the air.
Sooo, the color is now Ferrari yellow with blue wingtips on the top and Navy blue / Ferrari gold on the bottom. I would like to thank Rosario Casagrande from Ferrari Motor Works for his time and impeccable paint job [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]
I hope the plane flys as fast as it looks.

Thank you,
Ray Ray

RayRay,
If you are running the rod also through the fuselage front to back, you should have no problem.
I just did a rather not so perfect landing, hard enough to snap the Mega motor shaft, didn't even budge the foam.

GG,

When you get a chance can you please post some pics of the underside of one of your Strykers. I want to see how far from the back of the plane you installed the CF rod horizontally.
More pics to come....

I just realized that I should of posted this in the Stryker thread. Oh well, I could always direct them here.

Hi All,

Here's a view of the Stryker from the bottom. Pics were taken in high resolution.

Features:

BP-21 brushless motor w/30amp ESC
Hitec 555 Rx
HS-81 servos
Dymond 3 cell 2000mah lipo
Balsa elevons with Dubro hinges
24" CF rod across aft of plane
7 x 6 prop or APC 6 x 5

Total cost for this build: $196.74 (without Tx)
Total cost without electronics: $43.74

Flying this bird for 15min: Priceless

Still thinking of a name for her. Original name was "Midnight Express" but now that the paint scheme has changed I was thinking of "Fire Fly", "Yellow Bandit or "Yellow Blaze". Bottom is still Navy blue so if I can't think of anything better, I may stick with Midnight Express or perhaps "Sunlight Express" would be more appropriate.

Any suggestions? Please nothing whimpy like "Sunflower or "Daisy". Its a fighter plane, remember.

Tailwind

RayRay,

I like the paint job. If you're a little apprehensive about flying her. I'll maiden her for you.

hey RayRay, how about calling it 'the blue and yellow stryker that is wickedly fast' or 'blue and yellow thunder' ???

finished the gws me109 which makes 3 planes to maiden and a re-engined badius to trial. currently working on the timy and fragile hyperion cap, a plane that will be able to do a good impression of a box of matches with one crash, but it looks good. about another 2 hours. got the timy but stonger spitfire from ak models (he's so cheap and his planes are good), next up for building. this could be a speedster, haven't decided yet and anyway i've run out of himax 2025-5300 motors.

Hey All

Went out this morning to take some pictures so I could participate in the "Pictures from around the world" thread on RCGroups.

These pictures were taken with my Nikon Coolpix 5600 mounted on my Godzilla stick.

Enjoy

My flat spins are where you lower throttle, left aileron, left rudder, and pull up a little. All I did was not pull up enough and had too much throttle, then got too fast and when I pulled back, too many Gs.

OK. I was just wondering. In the full scale world, a flat spin is something you should not be able to get into unless something is wrong with your plane. If you do, the odds are almost certain that the end results will be fatal.

You are doing the right thing to get into a spin, from which you recover by pointing the nose down, leveling the wings and adding throttle. A flat spin can occure if you are tail heavy. The fact that you are "flat" means there is NO air moving over the wing or tail surfaces, preventing you from pointing the nose down! Of course, I am talking about full scale and have not tried to spin my models. Yet.

well no flying so far this week, and i've got 5 free days. moday was too windy and yesterday was raining all day. i'm into building some wooden planes now, after a session on foam planes. nearly finished the hyperion CAP, which looks really nice, but the wood is really thin. next up is the ak models spitfire and then the cub. after that, maybe the ak models mustang, although i'm still sorting out the parkzone mustang so it flys without crashing. the only thing with woodn models is that the electric ones, especially the smaller ones, often use really thin wood and i'm not sure if they'd be worth fixing after, say a nose in. the ak models are ok as they are so cheap ($54), but the $100 other ones are too expensive to buy replacement parts were available. the only wooden electric i've flown is the wattage wild cat, which has a really strong wing but weak plastic / wood fus, but i'm very careful with that but it's still fun. the 2m beast is built like a tank as is my other thunder tiger plane, the glow tiger trainer. looks like the winter mass production is drawing closer !! it takes me a long wile to maiden new planes, but i've got a 5 year plan to build and start flying my planes. you only need a few really, but i look at them like my cd collection (200+), i'll eventually fly what i fancy when i fancy. in truth, i have to keep an interest up for potentially 15 years as my heart is really in flying real planes and gliders, but alas....!!

Grounded,
Here's one for your buddies at the flying field.
"Rising Sun"
The one in the back round is "Nasty, my high speed foamy. Equipt with folding wings, which activate in dives. Makes the hole in the ground so much bigger.

One other note Grounded,
Balsa is harder to fix then foam, and the "Clench Level" or "Pucker Factor" goes way up on maiden launch.
Best of luck on them.

RayRay,

Please don't call Hazy little. I was talking to Lou a while back and he said that Hazy is only 4 feet 9 inches tall. Supposedly Hazy has a complex about it. He'll be crying in his glue for a week now.
