What should I use for Slow Stick Hinges?
Everyone told me to use packing tape for the tail hinges before I built my SS. But now, even before I take it out for the maiden the tape is lifting on the edges of the elevator. Should I go with nylon hinges expoyed on? Or is there a better way? Should I have just used the included tape with the kit that everyone aid was junk?

The main thing with tape hinges is making very sure the surface is clean before applying the tape, and burnishing it thoroughly. A quick spritz with water(with just a little dishwasher detergent) and a quick wipedown will get you set right. Personally, I think the hinge tape GWS includes is pretty good. What kind of packing tape are you using? I ask because I've had better luck with 3M tape(aka Scotch) than anything else. It seems to have better adhesion.

I washed my SS tail with soap and water in the sink and let it thoroughly dry before applying the packing tape. It held fine.
I don't think you need to go to the fiber reinforced tape for the hinges. It is quite a bit heavier than the non reinforced type. If you do use it, cut it so it is only as wide as it needs to be--3/4" maybe? I used this tape for my whole SS and I was very surprised at the weight of it the day I took it off to do some work to the wing!

red duct tape works great weighs about the same as the decal included with tape and once its on ...it dont come off...also the color is nearly a exact match for the wingworks grat to cover holes in wings(dont ask ...pesky phillips screw drivers)

you can take apart an old 3.5 floppy disc, cut some rectangle hinges, cut slots with the exacto, glue one side in first (foam safe CA) then slide the surface on, disc material is TOUGH

Blenderm tape is the best that I have come across so far. I have also had good luck with packing tape (clear). Duct tape is heavy but it should not matter on the SS since it has such a high lift wing.
