Speed 400 on a Slow Stick breaking props
I have a GWS Slow Stick and am very pleased, except the props are very fragile. Any suggestions on a more rugged prop? If I was to mount a Speed 400 direct drive how should I prop it?

The Slow Stick has the Geared 280, right?
Is yours the Fuselage kind or not?
Also, BE CAREFUL!!! I think a 400 might pull the wing off, or at least snap it. It might work on 7 cells, but 8 would be way too much power.

I have the fuselage type and it is a 280 geared and mine wouldnt take a 400 direct drive, in fact I snapped the wing off this morning about 100 feet up, it was too windy and I was bringing it down when "snap!" and dropped like a foam rock, and several weeks ago I had reinforced the wing with a bamboo skewer, it may be just junk now I havent really checked it out

I gave my SS to my friend.
He isn't quite good at flying yet and broke the plastic motor mount slightly.
He's coming over now and I'm going to help him repair it with the extra SS kit I ordered.
As for protecting the prop, I was thinking about trying to build some cage that surrounds the prop.
But the best I can do now is use the extra set of landing gear and place it in the front right behind the motor. That will protect the prop from underneath. If you want to protect the prop in other directions you may need another mount or method.

I finally figured out what all the confusion is with the GWS "Slow Stick"... it is three planes.
I have followed other threads about the SS, and got slightly confused by some of the posts. Being a Senior Citizen (at least at Dennys and some of the Native American casinos) my gray matter takes a bit longer than usual to process the information.
I think the confusion comes from the fact that the GWS PICO-STICK-F and
PICO-STICK-S are advertised as "Slow flyers". This makes it easy to mix them up with the GWS Slow Stick. The difference between the two planes (Pico Stick-x and the SS) is great.
The PS-x has a wing span of 38.2 in and a wing area of 236.8sq.in. The SS has a wing span of 46.3 in and a wing area of 505.9 sq.in! These are quite different birds.
Which one are we talking about here?

So am I , but I don't think some of the others were.
As to breaking the prop... I haven't broken one yet (knock on wood), but I have only 10 flights on it so far. A simpler fix might be to check the balance. If yours is landing hot enough to break the prop it sounds a bit nose heavy.
As for the speed 400 DD, don't waste your time. On other threads I have read where this was tried with lousy results. The big, draggy wing of the SS calls for a big prop. Mine actually flies better on a 12 x 6 then it did on the supplied 11 x 8.
Good luck, clear skies

rahtware,
I think you are right. I just got a new magazine, and I now know what the "Slow Stick" really is. I thought it was just a Pico Stick.
