Decal Help
After building the kit the way the instructions say I think it came out ok, If you look at page 14 and 15 of the instruction book they show you some paint scheme's, I have another P51 and I wast thinking about painting the next one.. decals are ok for one that wants to get in the air quick..

P51
I built mine all stock with supplied glue etc.
Just added a pilot, and painted critical areas with probond to ensure longevity..
It flies fine, but mine has cg problem. Still can't get it forward enough (same trouble I had with zero, only not as bad). At least I can fly it. Couldn't fly my zero at all.
So far, 3 cold winter flights in mid-level winds, no problems though my landings have been none too graceful.

Do You Need Rudder?
To those of you who have flown successfully:
Do you use rudder in the air? I've been thinking of not including the rudder servo, and instead use ailerons only in the air. Any comments?

rudder
Well If you want to be able to taxi and turn your plane on the ground its a must.. also it does help when landing I can pitch the plane a little back and forth without tipping the wings...

Haven't flown a GWS P-51, but my experience is that most 4 ch planes can be flown without using the rudder.
Trouble is, this can lead to a serious medical problem called "Lazythumbitis!" The ramifications of this malady can be devastating including but not limited to: Ground loops, marginal takeoffs and landings and the inability to snaproll!
My advice is to keep that left thumb flexed and moving so it is always ready for the unexpected.
Just my two cents and worth every penny!

geez... now after bending my drive shaft, and losing a chunk out of the nose, i finally have this flying right.

I'm going to reset at your recommendations of 3/4" in front of spar.

while useing the retracts can you use the foam wheels, or even if you trimmed them down (and maybye deepend the "hole" for the wheels. wheel houseing) there still woulden't be enough room. please reply!

GWS P51 park flyer
When I broke the two-blade 10x8 prop on the Zero, I tried a 4-blade 10x8 I had while waiting for the GWS P-51 to arrive. The 4-blade provides a lot of traction, but the plane flew alittle slower. I'm not sure I'll use it on the P-51, but I have to admit it looks cool

My P-51 weighs in at slightly over 12 oz. compared with my Zero at slightly over 10 oz. Both have same moter and gear, but the P-51 is a heavier plane.
Anyone else have poor power experience with the P-51?

GWS P51
I'm thinking of getting one to install a glow .049. Does this plane have a flat bottom or symmetrical airfoil?
Also, would anyone be interested in buying the electric motor and other components?

I just picked this plane up yesterday and had a couple of questions.......I picked up a 7.2V 600 mah Ni-Cad for the plane....which was in the recommended range...is this battery going to be completely useless? I'm much more familiar with glow models.....all of these different motors, esc, batteries, etc. can be very confusing!!
Also, I saw that somebody else mentioned not using the rudder servo....and I didn't see a definitive answer as to how this worked......has anybody actually tried this?
Mike

What Batteries???
What packs are you finding work the best with the stock setup? With the 9x7 prop?
Also, what are you finding as far as AUW? I'm at 17.1 oz ready to go with a 7 cell 1000 mah pack.
All the different kinds of cells are a bit confusing to me

The GWS 370 stock motor and gear drive work very well with the GWS Zero and with the P-51. For me, the 8-cell battery is best. It gives a bit more power than the 7-cell pack. The 720 mah, nihd batteries are AAA size and fit well within the GWS models, although it takes some reaming out of the battery compartment.
Currently, I'm getting 9-14 minute flight times.
I've got some 800 mah, nihd batts on order, but I doubt that I'll go any larger due to the weight considerations. The P-51 is already heavier than the Zero. With the 720, 8-cell pack I'm in the 12+ oz range.
I personally like the rudder control. Park flying is a challenge and having the extra control surface will allow advancement in flying techniques. Plus, how can you do a hammerhead stall without a rudder.
The GWS line of war planes is fast becoming my favorites. I started with electrics due to the distance to the dedicated r/c fields in my area. I've built about 12 so far and I'm having a blast.
Recently on a calm afternoon, I flew the Zero on my street in front of my house. The trees line the street and rise up about 50'. The Zero climbed over them in less than 150'.

Wish I was there!
Hey Gregg,
You may have read some of my posts...but I have had to hang-up my P51 for now & get some experience on my new Beaver.
I wish I was there to see you fly your P51......having repaired mine it's looking as good as ever, but damn it's gonna look better in the air!
Fernando.
