Default GWS P51 park flyer

I just bought one of these today. Does anyone else have one of these? Is there anything I need to watch out for when assembling it, or during it's first flight?

bought one and if you use a 7 cell sub c battery pack it flies great.FAST!!j use regular 5 min epoxy on everything the glue they give you sucks and takes forever to dry.reinforce insides where you can in front of wing area and in back of wing area with 1/16 ply not too much if you come in funny the foam will snap in these spots.already done it just glue back together works fine.DO NOT use too much throw only a little required, will roll and climb pretty fast,I'm using micro servos and have put in 80% expo on ailerons and elevator.Don't use tail wheel as it will NEVER hold up, atleast mine didn't plastic snapped on second landing ,use skid plate of some sort keep it light though! have fun!

yes I used the geared motor if works just fine.tried it with a 400 speed motor with smaller prop,It won't fly!!! use the 300 with gear,it will be plenty fast enough plus it needs the larger prop to fly.you should be able to get about 5 to 7 min on each flight. batteries are nicad.

Sub C batteries??? Those wouldn't fit in the battery slot unless you reamed it out a bunch. Are you sure you used that large a battery? Even 600 are too large. I put a 7 cell AA pack in mine with the stock motor and it flew ok. You're 100 % right on your other great points.

I think those are either 1/2 or 2/3 sub C cells

The GWS glue is a contact cement....... put a little on two scrap pieces then let them sit about five to 10 minutes depending on temp. Put it together and it is stuck...... To bad they don't tell you this in the manual. I have built four tiger moths, two Zero's and two Beavers this way with no troubles at all.

If you put the parts together like a regular glue it will take days to dry and it wont ever cure right.

Default Pictures are great!

Looks like 350mh. nicad's.

When I open the box it came in I'll have to test that glue.

5 minute epoxy is always like a race to apply before it goes boom

If you apply the glue to both surfaces, let it dry, then put the parts together like contact cement. How do use this glue for the hinges? Also the directions show to put a bead of glue where the horizontal stab meets the fuselage. Do you use a different glue for this? Thanks for the help.

as I said before I threw the stuff they give you away it's junk in my opinion.I used 5 min epoxy on the whole thing it took about 2 hours to do everything if you don't like the 5 min use the 10 min, either or doesn't matter. If you use their glue it will take too long.Just do one side of hinges at a time and one side of the plane at a time. The most epoxy I mixed up at one time was the size of a quarter on it's side. Just enough to do a few things before it kicked.I'm tellig you it's the only way to go, it's fast and strong.

I used 5min epoxy for most of the plaane and foam safe CA for the hinges on the rudder, elevator, aelir. Here's a link to a build and fly thread I started on another site which I hesitate to post:

Hope this helps.

epoxy works great... just adds weight. I used foam safe CA for the hinges. I use regular CA hinges cut into 1/8" strips.

I threw away the first two tube of the glue because I thought it was junk also. Just give it a try like I said and you will be very surprised at the results. build one with epoxy, then build one with GWS glue and weigh it then get back to me.

the amount of epoxy you use on this park flyer doesn't hurt it at all, I used 5 min on the whole thing including hinges, and like I said it is pretty fast for a 300 speed motor pulling that big prop, good flying plane!

Default building question...

hey guys, do you know if the p-51 will require any rear horiz stab tweaks? i know the gws zero needed to be tweaked a little to avoid the "full throttle nose-up" syndrome.

has anyone noticed this on the p-51?

nope doesn't need anything other than the reinforcing of the inner wall as I explained in the earlier posts. This airplane flies great right out of the box just glue it together and go that's all!!!

Fryfly:

Did you use the main gears? I'm contemplating skipping them since they look so bad. With reinforcement, will belly landings injure the airplane?

Default where's everyone's CG at?

ive figured out the problem... the manual is off again! (just like to zero) it's more like 1/2"-3/4" in front of the bamboo spar.

why haven't anyone posted this as a problem? everyone i spoke to at the flying field says it's definately closer to these settings, compared to the 6-7mm as stated in the manual.

geez... now after bending my drive shaft, and losing a chunk out of the nose, i finally have this flying right.

Default New GWS Mustang

I just got my gws mustang a cuople of dys ago and put it together, I was wondering if it's better to use the decals or if your better off just painting the plane.

while useing the retracts can you use the foam wheels, or even if you trimmed them down (and maybye deepend the "hole" for the wheels. wheel houseing) there still woulden't be enough room. please reply!
