Tim,
takes about 40-50 mins with the 1000mAH.

I have 1200mAH 8 cells and they take just over an hour on 1.3A.

If any one is interested, here is the logview chart from my RC-Power 601BC showing the typical peak charge of a NiMH.

Well, from reading other posts it seams like I can use my stock battery with no problems for right now. I need an ESC but my main question is what servo's do I get?

As someone that's been lurking around this forum for awhile I thought it's time to take the plunge a buy a Hobbyzone Super Cub, it seems that's the beginner plane to buy. Where could I find the best deal on this plane? What about batteries and the engine for the cub, are they longlasting or will they need to be replaced after awhile?

The motor will last for a while and the batteries are good for now. Just charge them at the right rate and they will last longer. Once you get the hang of it, you can upgrade to a 8 or 9 cell maybe even LIPO batteries. Everything comes with the plane so, you will not have anything else to buy. (just spare parts)

Here's a SC for $139.99 with free shipping, this bid ends today!

I had no issues on my maiden flight with the SC... this after almost totally destroying a parkflyer/trainer that wasn't quite as easy to fly as they claimed.

Let us know how things go!

Here are some pics of my ol' girl. She was nicknamed "lucky 100" after the 100th flight and has since flown over 500 flights The pictures were taken just prior to flight #500 (some time last week). Original wing, fuse, tail, prop, motor, servos and radio. Second set of tires (I wore the first set to the rim).

If you do the math the first 100 flights were aprox. 15 minutes each (8 cell) and the last 400 are aprox. 25 minutes each (lipo). That is 191 hours and 40 minutes in the air!!!

That would be the same as taking off Sunday morning 8:00 am and landing Monday morning 9:40 am the following week!

At an average speed of 40 MPH My cub has covered 7664 miles.

Let me give you an idea how far that is. My super cub could have taken off in Washington DC flown to Los Angeles California flown back to New York City then down to Miami Florida and then flown to Nashville Tennesee!!!!! That is how much distance it has covered since March!

I have just completed the installation of a Spectrum Dx6 and am adding ailerons, an internal bomb drop that opens from the bottom like the cargo door on a C130, rigging the navigation, cockpit and landing lights to be switched on a off by remote control. I also have a color video camera that sits in the front windsheild I am making a mount for that swivels with the rudder servo. Who says the Super Cub is just for beginners???

Hey I know that design....hehe. I am so glad a bunch of you are doing it too. I have seen several peoples versions of it and they are all awesome. It is fun to drop bigger stuff or at least more stuff. Looks good!

WOW, 500 flights already?!!
I lost track of mine, but that seems like a lot. Congrats.

On a sadder note, I had my first "serious" crash last night []
While night flying, I discovered the winds were much more gusty up high than I had thought or was reported. After about 5min of tense flying, I decided to bring her in. I was about to turn around for the final approach when a gust hit the top of my SC while turning into the wind. Long story short: stalled wing, flat spin, too low,.....crash on the other side of the condos.
I ran over and found the wreckage in the middle of the street, (luckily not on a roof, or someones car) lights in every direction (they were just taped on). The wreckage shows that I most likely belly flopped her hard. Damage report: Broken prop, possible cracked gear box, ripped batt. box and landing gear clean out. [&o]
I think that the extra weight of the lights out on the wing tips and underneath played a factor too. It worked pretty good in calm air weeks ago, but there was serious pendulum effects last night. All in all, it's nothing a few spare parts, some glue, and TLC can't fix up.

I have been flying my super cub for over a year now. I have many electrics but still bring the cub out every time. I have always flown it on a 1350 11.1 lipo pack. I would say it has over 100 flights on it. Well this week I decided it was time to upgrade the plane since the stock transmiter went out.

I installed new servos and a spektrum reciever. BL400-15T gear-reduced unit from a typhon, and a 25 amp Align speed control. She flies awsome. A 12 X 8.75 prop works really well. The only issue is I need to order some larger tires since the prop does not work well from ground take offs. Cub can climb straight vertical and is fun and challenging to fly inverted.

If you can...try a 10x7 with that combo and see how it performs. A small dia prop will take care of those take off's. Do you have a watt meter? If so you should check your draw with your current set up. It may be a bit rough on it.....maybe not.

Having bypass surgery done next week. Lots of medical information but the most important answer I don't have yet. Has anyone had this done and if so how long was it B4 you could fly again?

Take it easy Zestril5 and listen to the Docs and the flying will come soon enough. Good Luck!

Ok, the Cub is in serious disarray. It has a crack in the fuselage, dings in the wings, and a cracked horizontal stabilizer. What is the best way to repair the foam?
BTW, never give the controls to a 9 year old, no matter how well he flies the simulator. I knew better too.

Bigtone,
I just thought I would let everyone know if they think the $139 price for a super cub is great, which it is, check this out. This is where I bought mine for $115. [link=http://myrcsupply.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=14081]MyRcSupply.Net[/link] I live in the same city as the warehouse so I didn't have to pay shipping. Right know they our out of stock and you can understand why! Thier SC parts are the cheapest I've seen. I am building up two from just parts. I have a real 1947 J-3 and it is the greatest plane ever built with the super cub a very close second. Happy flying.

I think that is the best price sofar for a new SC. I'm upset about their super low $164.98 for the PZ T-28 I pre-ordered for $219.99.[X(] You can't win them all. They even have parts for my hana, thanks C185heavy for that web site.

Everyone in this thread needs to join http://supercubclub.proboards78.com/ because this thread is way too congested with Qs and As all over the place.

Tell the Doc to use 5 minute Epoxy, and you will be back in the air in no time.

Userlain -- Don't know where you are in MT, but I'm a MT newbie and 45 miles from the nearest RC club, 50 miles from the nearest LHS, and I doubt that there is anyone besides myself in my half of the county who's into RCs. I 'm approaching 200 flights on the SC and I still read this thread everyday and continue to learn from the Q&As.

I'm in Missoula. I fly my SC just about every other day.

Also, could someone please tell me what 'custom configuration' I need to choose for a 9.6v 1500mAh Elite pack from cheapbatterypacks.com? I think small male Tamiya connector in Brick configuration.
