Slow Stick motor stalls in the air
I have had a GWS Slow Stick for a few months which has been flying great up until recently. The last three outings to the flying field have been frustrating. For some reason, the motor has started stalling in flight. The motor just starts sputtering and finally shuts down while in the air. I still have full elevator and rudder control, but the motor just stalls. After landing, I am able to throttle up and get airborne again. I think it is either the motor shutting down because it is overheating, but I am a newbie so I don't even know if the motor will do that if it is hot. The only other thing that I can think of it that the electronic speed controller is going bad. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Slow Stick motor stalls in the air
Mike,
It sounds like maybe the motor is just plain worn out. If you've had it a few months then I'd bet money on it.
Where do you fly in Mesa? Have you been to D&D Hobbies parking lot fun fly on Sundays?

Slow Stick motor stalls in the air
After showing off by landing my SS backwards, it blew off the field and into a fence. The replacement tailpieces are $14 so I ordered a new SS.
In your case, a new motor (+ gearbox) is $22. Why not get another SS so you will have the replacement parts? (For when you decide to show off.)
Which ESC are you using?

Dead motor
I had the same problem with my Slow Stick and it turned out to be a cold soldered connection on a line from the ESC to the motor at the motor. I would land check out everything and fly again then the motor would surge then quit. I noticed the poorly soldered joint at dusk when it was gettinf darker I and I could see a faint arcing at the motor. I re-soldered my connection and have not had trouble since.
