Please Help, Need prop/ gearing selection
Hey all, I have an Ultrafly Cessna 182 on floats, It weighs in at 26 oz. I flew it with the stock "falcon 400" motor that comes stock untill I melted the Plastic back right off of it. Now the only motor that I have to use Is the Parkzone Brushless that comes with there Typhoon. I have tried that brushless with the Ultrafly gear box (3.1) and an APC 9x6 and ended up running so hot that the shrink wrap on the battery started melting off (also a Parkzone 10.8v 1000ma nimh). So then I tried the recommended prop for a lipo in the ultrafly, an 8x8. It still got pretty hot, but flew great with both props. Now I have a pretty limited selection in gearing, I have the stock typhoon gear box 8.1 or 6.1 I can't tell from there website, and the ultrafly 3.1. I on the other hand have a whole bunch of props to choose from but I don't know were to start. If anyone knows anything about the PZ stuff and motocalc could enlighten me I would be very greatful. I love this plane and the floats are great but I need to stick to parts I have in hand at the moment due to finances. Also I am looking for pretty scale peformance out of this, maybe some basic aerobatics. Any ideas would be great, links to motor/battery/gear/prop info would be good too, That would help me on my next project
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Please Help, Need prop/ gearing selection
I have a somewhat similar plane, it is a foamy Cessna 182 by ParkFlyers. I went with a 30amp ESC, a Graupner SPEED 480 motor, 3:1 gearbox, 8.4v 1000mah bat. and a 8x4.5 Slowflyer prop. It has never even got to the point where it is warm to the touch. Maybe try coming down a little in the prop size to a 8x4.5 or 8x4, more RPM's and less wear or torque on the motor.
