Yes, the only constant is the radio stuff ...
Does this mean that te rx cant handle more than 8 volts?

RE: Electrafun XP Review/Thread!
Ben all I can sugest is to get a volt meter and check the voltage on the RX before it plays up and then check it after it plays up..The ESC RX output should be no lower than 4.5 volts if it dropping out before or at 4.5 you have a faulty RX.
To check the voltage use a old battery lead or aold servo lead so you dont short the RX out.
What brand of RX are you using?
Ben on one of you other posts you say
[ Does this mean that te rx cant handle more than 8 volts? ]
Are you powering up the RX directly from the battery pack or from the ECS output? Please say from the ECS!
Now what happens when you leave the motor disconected. does it still drop out?

RE: Electrafun XP Review/Thread!
hi gents
k
OK, believe it or not.....i have acquired a brushless and ESC. not quite sure what it is, but tried it last night and works fine, complete with some little tunes coming out of the ESC.
My only problem now is going to be mounting it. Any suggestions? Should mounting it on the existing fuse holes be good enough?

Hi jimbyjoe,
That looks like a tower pro motor and ESC. I have a couple of those, but my motor shaft is the other way around. You will need to either reverse the shaft to mount the motor inside the EF, like the original..... or with the shaft the way it is you could mount it ouside the EF... but that may be prone to too much vibration.... I had to play with mine a bit to ensure I got the right clearance.
Are you still using NiCad's or NiMh batteries? The ESC is probably configured for LiPo's at the moment, but most can be programmed for the type of battery and number of cells.... not so critical for NiMh but very important for LiPo's to ensure you do not discharge the battery too much.
It may all seem too hard to begin with... but well worth the effort put in. I will look for some photos of my setup for you.

Way to go! the LiPo's will give you much more grunt for the brushless...
When you connect the battery, the ESC will make a series of beeps... sometimes it may continue to beep until the RX is initialised. Once it is initialised it will make a little tune, then for LiPo's it may beep twice for 2 cells.... and then a longer beep to indicate it's ready. Anyway... pay attention to the beeps after it makes it's little introduction tune, you should find it's different based on the different batteries you connect to it.
I am in the middle of rebuilding a laptop... still looking for those pics...

Its a miracle! Jimby going to go fast!!!!!!!
What size is the outer can? just make sure it will fit in the fuse....Dont mount it on the out side the vibes will give you so many probs.

hmmm Good point Jaav... I suspectJimby's shaft is 3mm which meansthe OEM prop will not fit without reaming out the centre... but better to have a bigger shaft I always say
I could not find my pics, so I just took some more.... this is a spare TPmotor... ready to go into my mates EF once he is ready to upgrade.

Well found why ( I hope ) I drop the rail apon landing. when i select flaps, one of the ailerons moves more than the other. No wonder she would drop the wing![X(]
Found a use for Loungys old NE-KO TX. FMS control..
Loungy broughtmy new project EF, Just orderd the new motors...

RE: Electrafun XP Review/Thread!
I had a nice fly with the EF today…. almost ended in tears to begin with though… it was tears of laughter once I worked out how stupid I was!! My flight last week ended with a broken servo so today was its maiden with the new SG90’s… I launched the EF and spiralled wildly in the air, going inverted and then plummeting to the ground… crazy stuff, I thought my flying could not be that bad after a week… any way turns out I had the rudder & elevator in the wrong ports on the RX…. DUH!!!
I still cannot believe I missed that… I think my pre-flight mental checklist needs some serious revising!!
Anyway no damage to the EF (just my pride) and once I swapped the servos on the RX I had a good 15-20 minutes cruising around. No fancy flying just practicing some approaches and some nice circuit flying. A one stage some woman’s dog tried to get a little too friendly, jumping up and making a nuisance of itself… at one stage I think it was going to hump my leg! [:@]
Before the wind picked up too much I decided to try the Mugi (corflute delta wing). I have a new motor (1400kV) and a 8x4 prop… that really made the difference… I still have not worked out the best way to launch yet, but when I finally got it airborne it was a dream to fly, really stable (at speed) and so cool to see tearing up the sky and then rocketing past on low level passes… I am very impressed with this little wing. I ended the day with two broken props an 8x4 and a 8x6…. But with a grin from ear to ear… $4.95 for each prop is well worth it for the fun to be had!!

RE: Electrafun XP Review/Thread!
Nice weather this morning but after suffering from a cold all week (not swine flu!) I didn't have the energy. Thought about some gentle flying with the EF but after last week's hijinks I need to do something about the motor mount. The motor got hot enough to soften the plastic and when it got pushed into the fuse the plastic got warped and split at the top. Now the motor waggles a bit so I'm thinking for an ExtremeEF(tm) something needs to be done to make the motor mount stronger and heat resistant. I've got a few ideas including cutting the back plastic out and epoxying in a ply firewall.
I did manage to drag myself out and maiden the STS foamy I made last week. Was rapt at how well that went. Now I've made an STC and an STS (both sedate trainers for the kids) for my next build I want something a bit more challenging to fly. I'm thinking of building a Mugi but not sure how well it will work with depron. Rowdy what thickness coro did you use? I probably should try to get some 2.5 or 3mm stuff. My large sheet of 5mm coro seems to be good only for a sign the reads "4 sale - large sheet of 5 mm corflute"

RE: Electrafun XP Review/Thread!
ROTFL....
From my limited experience anything bigger than 2.5mm thick flute for a Mugi is too heavy unless you scale up the size, but you have to be careful of the wing loading... the original 800mm Mugi uses 2mm…. but it’s hard to get 2mm coroflute in Aus.
My Mugi is built using 2.5mm with the stock 800mm wingspan and 400mm cord. Flying weight is about 560g, a tad on the heavy side, but my motor is able to push it along nicely.
I think my next Mugi will be a bit bigger, maybe 900mm or 1 meter wingspan… [8D]

Jewy, If you go gack a few pages you can see I fitted mudgaurd washers on both sides after having a motor fall out.
also beefs up the fuse...The mud washer is a large diameter but small hole, from the hardware shop..the fun bit is holding it all together then screwing it..
Still praying for the wind to rack off..

RE: Electrafun XP Review/Thread!
Well the wind didnt drop much, But Lounghy, Son and I went flying.
Rowdy it happens to all of us. I sent the sons SPA3D up, somting was'nt right, Then had an engine flame out and as it was coming down I spiraled it in to the ground. i was thinking what the bloody hell was that. Then the smart ass son said the ailerons are reverse, DUH....
Had the FCO on the EF chasing Loungy Son was flying...I was crashing again. Destoyed the Yard Stick in a perfect vertical dive. FCO was facing foward and was still recording after the crash..The 3 cell and brushless opened her up never flown forward in the wind before....
