Gypsy ARF pinion issue
Got a Gypsy ARF for quick and easy cruising. I swapped a HiMax 4100 brushless into the gearbox, using the pinion from the brushed motor. All else is stock, so only using a 2 cell lipo. Worked great on the bench, but at the field (naturally) the pinion slipped so the prop won't work. That was before the maiden flight.
I am looking for a quick fix for the spinning pinion, CA glue, epoxy, solder (worried about heat damage to motor).
If all else fails, I'll put in an outrunner. But, I am first looking for the easy fix so I do not create yet another Frankenstein.
Suggestions?

RE: Gypsy ARF pinion issue
Have used "Locktite" before, worked for me. Scuff up the shaft a little with sand paper and then apply and slide on the gear. I used the red that was handy but I think I read that it wasnt the best for this application. Go to their website and they have all the formulas and the best usage.
Good Luck

RE: Gypsy ARF pinion issue
Bob, from your suggestion, I went on the loctite site. If I am understanding the specifics, CA glue has the same shear strength for bonding cylindrical metals as their other bonding agents, but a temperature rating up to 180 F (CA) vs 300 F for other bonding materials. Unless I overstress the motor, I should stay below 180 degrees F. I will try CA glue after cleaning and reinstalling the pinion gear.
Thanks, hoping for a thumbs up.

RE: Gypsy ARF pinion issue
You definitely want to clean the shaft as well as possible. I would recommend wiping with acetone and then scuffing with fine sandpaper before adding the CA. Also "swish" the pinion in acetone as well.
