sky scooter upgrade
I've been really happy with my sky scooter other the past several months. It's done what I bought it for, an anytime plane to get that flying fix. I like it a lot but the lacking performance has been getting to me. I already put a gearbox on it and that helped a lot, but it can't go anything more than a foot or two vertically. Granted I'm not expecting an airplane designed as a gentle flyer/trainer to start doing T.O.C. manuevers but......... that's what I want to do . I was wondering if anyone has souped up their sky scooter, or if they've found a certain battery type that works real well. It's such a good plane I don't want to get another one but experiment with this one and make it a hot little aerobat. Another question, I've been into nitro planes for a long time and electrics are generally kinda new to me. I was wondering what a good brush less motor upgrade would be, or if I should just quit what I'm doing and buy a higher performance plane right off the back.
Thanx

Hey Aeropal
I was looking at the battery you recommended for juicing up the sky scooter. I have had a pro II for a few weeks now and actually looked at the battery you recommended the last time I was in Radio Shack.
So have you been using the Shack's battery in your scooter? Does it cause the motor and or BEC to heat up noticibly? What sort of run times are you getting? And lastly, what sort of mods have you done to you scooter (air scoop, prop, etc)?
Thanks for any help you can provide to a fellow scooter flyer!

You've got to stop posting links to media... I find them so interesting that I just have to watch, but the last one took a half-hour to download (@28,800bps)! It's tough living in the country and not wanting to spend the big bucks on a satellite link.

Wow, That is one awesome video. I consider myself a pretty good pilot of the old double-s, but flying around that tree so repeatedly is just asking for death for me. Impressive.
Hey, If you plan to upgrade to the 8 cell pack (and it does help a lot), take a look at the fuselage near the engine mount, you'll notice a hole on one side. What I did was port the other side of the fuse, to give flow through ventilation. It helped the heat problem a great deal, and I know that it will make the motor last longer.
I actually melted the hot glue in my first fuse, causing the engine to come loose. Bad scene, man.
Good Luck!

Anyone have any experience with this plane as a trainer? I've got a friend that has the typical R/C bug where he wants to fly something cooler looking than a traditional trainer. He's seriously considering the Scooter II Pro package with radio. He has some limited stick time on a glider 5+ years ago.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I quit flying RC Helicopter's over 13 years ago, too many $$ and bent parts
I bought a Sky Scooter II Pro as a reward for my 8 year old son and a excuse to get back in RCs.
I have 5 flights on it and I love it....
Right out of the box and in the air within 40min(charging the battery) it flew great for someone hasn't flown in a long time.
Yes I would recommend it for a trainer...

The SS was my first ever rc plane (although I am a pilot), and I would say that it proved to be a more than adequate trainer. I love mine, and would reccomend it to anyone as a good advanced trainer. I have flown some of the other "traditional" trainers since (cub, tm, firebird), and find that the scooter is as easy to master, with more exciting flight characteristics.
Go for it! You can't beat the value!
