Default Littlest Stick

My littlest stick is almost ready, It has that "I will fly look" I am using the smallest GWS IPS motor available with 4 to 1 gears and 6-3 prop, 5 amp ESC, itty bitty 4 channel reciever, itty bitty servos for rudder and elevator, 1.5 inch foam wheels. It is a tail dragger and weighs just under 6 ounces with a 300 ma 7 cell battery. I could take 1 ounce off if I used a Li Poly 560 ma battery at 7.4 volts. If you you hear something wispering overhead soon, It might be my plane, out of control. Will post flight results. Happy flights to you!

My Lite Stick was also made flight ready last night. With batterry and all components it weighs just under 7 oc. i am going to use 6 and 7 cell 270's and 7 cell 350's. The guy I got it from was using lithiums on it and getting 40 minute he told me. I tried a test ROG last night under the street light and it took of at half throttle with in 15 feet. At full throttle it should jump right off the ground.

Here is more info on a Lite Stick than one person could ever need:Little LIte Stick Some pretty cool stick designs though. It is the article called "The Famous Lite Stick Page"

Rahtware:

Thanks, just what I needed. Do you know what you have done?? Now I have to go out there and scratch one out of the one I have or do the conversion. Thanks, now I have another plane to get in the air.

I have two Cirrus CS-10's, 1 mxr-4 Rx, A Wattage 5 amp ESC. All I need is the motor. I have a Max1 from Dymond in a Air Cruiser from cox running on an 8 cell 110 mah nimh pack. I get about 6 minutes of flight time on it and it tips the scales at 4 3/8 oz. The wing area is about the same so it may just work out right.

Dru Not to get too excited yet...

This is a work in progress and hasn't been flown yet. I had the plane (fuel soaked, but intact), had the motor, DD 280 and the gear, the same that you listed except a 10A ESC... So I just had to put them together. While trying to decided which battery to use I spotted a GWS T-Moth and had to borrow the gear for that project.

So the LS sits and waits for me to get up enough nerve to try it out. As I remember, I flew it (15+years ago) with 2 micro (.6 - .7 oz) servos, a micro (1.2 oz) Rx and a 250mah flight battery. I think the E-gear will come in just a bit heavier... Unless I strip out my DD and use its IPSDX2 power plant...

It must be getting late, I'm thinking crazy now.

Good luck with yours.

Rahtware, I can see that Im not the first. Mine looks like a real good flyer, so does yours, so give it a try. Thanks for the reply!

Clockcharlie, thanks for the info, sounds like you have a good flyer. I have the cub version. It is the most reliable of all my planes, flys one half hour plus on 800 ma 7.4 volt Li-poly's. But the plane I am talking about is the littlest stick, a 19 inch w-span ugly stick. Have fun and good luck with the solo, keep in touch.

Dru--- how did your's come out so light?

With all this talk I had to try it!!!

Mine came in at just over 7oz dripping wet (not kidding, it is a bit fuel soaked from the ol' TD.) Ended up using a JR 610 Rx and a couple of tiny JR servos with a 150mah NiCad. This is behind a direct-drive GWS 280.

It would have been a good enough flight time if I had been able to control it! 50 yards and into a tree! Had to hand launch as the 280 didn't have enough power to ROG, but it seemed to have enough power to keep it a-flight. I balanced it on the spar (as per the plans), but it sure acted nose heavy... Although, I didn't do a power-off glide test so it could just be the motor thrust line. I kinda just eyeballed it and hot glued it in place. I can't believe how tough this little plane is, three hard landings (?) and no damage.

Will make some changes tonight and try it out again tomorrow morning.

It is a bit squirrely, but didn't seem all that out of control considering the balance/thrust-line problem.

Now that I know it flies I am stuck. I will need to get it in the air. You guys are going to get me in real trouble with the boss. I am just so glad that she can not tell the differance between a power plane and a small electric one.

I am starting to believe that a LS powered by a GWS 280 DD and a 6-cell NiCad battery is NOT meant to fly!

Three more hand launches and all I could achieve was a couple of fast glides and an encounter with a tree.

The next step will be to add a couple of bays to the wing and see if the increased area will help.

Good luck with yours.

Larry--I am using the smallest GWS motor with 4-1 gears, 6-3 GWS prop, and 7 300 ma cells. The battery weighs 2 oz. The plane weighs 6 oz. Have not flown it yet but seems to have enough power. Check your CG. Keep in touch. John in the LA area.

John

I have the IPS2 in my Desert Duster and have thought about trying it in the Stick. I did do a little damage to a wing leading edge (and popped the motor out) so am thinking of doing a complete rebuild. After all, how long could it take to slap one of these together?

Wrong Coast Larry:

haven't bugged yu for a while, figures this was too good an opportunity to pass.Some of us know when we're well off, and leave the Coxes on the planes. Haw.

Here's my LS.

Got the plans and the wood, thin.
. Think I'm gonna bash it - a twin!

Bill.

Sorry, don't have the file small enough yet, still at 84K.wr.

Larry--- mine went together very quick. Used super glue and just followed the plan. It was a lot of fun. My motor is about half the size of the one that you get in the pico stick type plane. Good luck, let us know about you progress.

Bill, a twin sounds exciting. I was thinking of a bipe also. Sure is a cool little plane. Good luck, keep in touch.

Slick Willy

What's a Cox?

Oh, you mean a *&#$%@*Cox!

I think you should hook two of those suckers up to a LS and try fly her.

I give it 10 seconds before one of them leans out, or floods, or sticks (or sucks) a reed, or heats up, or decides it is too cold, or sucks a minuscule piece of dirt into the needle valve, or burns out a plug, or, etc, etc, etc.........

And that would be on a good day!

Clear skies

Test flights were not good. A gentle and powered landing everytime. Just not enough wing area or not enough power. Will try a larger motor and prop. I was using the smallest GWS motor, 4-1 gears, 6-3 prop, at 5.25 oz. Might work with a DD IPS and a 3' prop. Seems to be a very stable plane, just under powered. Will keep in touch, I dont give up.

Fault line Larry:

Sorry I'm so long getting back to this thread, been busy with other undertakings.

My LS is rudder only, with a Cox, sorry, a &%$ Cox 02 reed engine. Futaba R112, 110 mah battery, and a Cirrus micro servo.
Really don't know the weight, but I think it's less than 4 oz.

And it is indeed a sturdy plane; until I got used to it the flights as often as not ended at full power into the ground. Never hurt the plane but I did break a few props.

Outside loops cannot be flown, but inside loops are trivial, rolls are easy though a bit ragged, and a Cuban eight isn't hard. People watching are generally astounded at the available maneuvers with no throttle, and rudder only.

Plans are still available for the airplane, you should try one. Start to finish is about an hour and a half so there' really no excuse.

Let us know how you do with yours.

A rudder only stick,
. Is really quite slick.

Bill.

Testing of my electric littlest stick has not been to good. With the GWS stock motor, 3.5-1 gears, and 8040 prop it weighs almost 7 ounces. It barely stayed in the air. Thinking of a bipe with the same power, should be mucher better. Boy is it tough, some real rough landings with no damage at all. Good luck with yours. Let us know how it flys. Default RE: Littlest Stick

I have had excellent results with my own version of the Littlest Stick and e-power. I call it The Littlest Low Stick. This is my own design. It is a refined version of the Littlest Stick by Fred Reese. I thought I would build a small plane that was four channel and would be a lot of fun in small flying spaces. This plane has a semi-symetrical wing and only 4 degrees of dihedral. It also has full length ailerons.

Plane Specs.

Wingspan = 20.9"
Length = 16"
AUW = 6.2 Oz.
Motor = AXI 2204-054
Prop = APC 7x4 Slow Fly
Batt = Great Planes Lithium Polymer 350mAh 7.4V
ESC = Great Planes ElectriFly BL-8 Brushless ESC
Servos = 3, Cirrus CS-10BB
Receiver = GWS 6 channel

Here is a link to the flying video thread if you are interested. PIC 1 is right after takeoff. This little bird will ROG in about 10 feet!
