Anyone good with carbon fiber (broken boom on Skywave - pic)
Out flying my Skywave today, finally had some good weather. If you don't know, the Skywave is almost exactly like the Firebird series of planes...a pusher prop with pod and boom construction. The boom is made of carbon fiber on the Skywave.
Coming in for a landing, I hit tail first (pulled up too hard) and the carbon fiber boom (pushrods are inside the boom) snapped, right below the prop. You can see the tip of the prop in the picture, with the broken boom below.
I'm NO expert, but I'm pretty sure that carbon fiber can't just be glued together. Anyone have any suggestions for repair, or do I call this a total loss and move on to my next destruction....errr....project?
Thanks!
Andy

Hey Kodiak,
I saw a thread where a guy replaced the whole fuse with a carbon shaft from a hunting arrow. Only cost him a few bucks.
I got an Aerobird (my first RC plane) for X-mas and have been having a blast with it. Quite a decent plane for the bucks. I'm ready to move up into something more serious soon. Only trouble is - it's winter here in Wisconsin so I can't really scratch the itch as often as I'd like. Of course, you probably know all about that.

The arrow does work, just go to Walmart and get an arrow from the sporting goods dept. epoxy or glue it in place as needed, and install your guide gear. It is time consuming, and you have to be patient, but it works, and is much cheaper than a new plane.

Try this attached link for carbon fiber tube, they have great prices. All you need to know is the diameter.
Good Luck

Boom for skywave
The boom can be bought directly from the makers of skywave or Thawk. Only cost a few bucks and you 'll be certain it's the right size and length.
